Disappointed with the #ManchesterDerby today of course. Understandably, a bit like City in 80s/90s, Utd celebrate like this is the most important game of the season. Congratulations to all Reds I know. Enjoy it. For City, hopefully better days to come this season.

In official records the FA and clubs count FAC, LC, FL, PL, CS, European games (none so far) in official #ManchesterDerby record BUT there were plenty of ‘competitive’ first team games over the years. Here’s a ticket from one.

There were plenty of #ManchesterDerby games before the FL (Alliance League, Manchester Cup, friendlies etc) but the 1st competitive derby in FAC/FL was actually in October 1891 (follow the League): gjfootballarchive.com/2020/12/31/t...

No doubt someone will say the myth today that Law’s last competitive goal in English football was scored v MUFC but of course it wasn’t and he started the following season playing for @mancity See: gjfootballarchive.com/2022/04/27/l...

The great Denis Law died on 17 Jan last year. On #ManchesterDerby day it seems appropriate to remember him too. Here’s something I wrote on him and his often overlooked time at @mancity gjfootballarchive.com/2025/01/18/d...
Denis Law at City
Denis Law had such a wonderful footballing career, with so many periods deserving focus. Inevitably – and rightly – many will focus on his exploits with Manchester United and Scotland. …
