The planned Scottish Government #communitywealthbuilding Legislation will serve to make CWB activity mandatory, and thus elevate, amplify and scale action and outcomes. It will contribute to developing a scottish economy that truly works for people, place and planet.

the New Year begins, we’re flooded with ideas about “newness”...new goals, new habits, new versions of ourselves. But I’ve been reflecting on something we don’t talk about enough: endings.

Building alternatives to extractive economics isn’t just about critiquing the system from afar/behind our screens. It’s about actively rewriting the story at the local level, where change feels personal and immediate.

Scott argues that meaningful change often requires personal transformation – “we have to make real, tangible changes to our lives... we may have to quit our jobs, become activists at work, go back to school, start over, rethink, retool”.

We're delighted that our annual #UKPoverty report was the third most-read last year on @smartthinking.bsky.social's platform.

📅 Later this month, we'll be launching #UKPoverty2025, providing an up-to-date, in-depth picture of poverty across the UK.

Keep an eye on our social channels for updates!
The top 5 most read reports featured policy reports from Henry Jackson Society, EDSK, @jrf-uk.bsky.social @centreforcities.bsky.social @edupolicyinst.bsky.social and covered everything from immigration to VAT on school fees to poverty in the UK to English devolution and the length of the school day!

I feel that this is even harder in Rural Futures and Rural Communities…
This week has been a lesson in how much people will resist change and hold onto power… even if it is for the common good.

We need generations to acknowledge that it is time that organisations, processes, power and financing need to change for our resilient futures.

The changing climate delivers yet another named storm to the British Isles. Our creaking UK Infrastructure has no resilience, made brittle by years of underinvestment and wealth extraction. And it is all going to get much worse.
