We need to make it illegal for AI models to offer advertising. And, we need to really examine referral fees as well.

The last thing we need is to have algorithms designed to maximize revenue driving LLM output and interactions.

We need to have learned our lessons from algos in social media

Grab a spine @cnn.com

The only way to report this is to call it what it is. It’s not even adequate to call it a conflict of interest any more. It’s blatant corruption.

It’s obvious Musk, an unelected official, is there to enrich himself and you’re incapable of reporting accurately on it.

Banning TikTok is hugely advantageous to both Google and Meta. They've both already built competitors, YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels. And while Congress and the Supreme Court cite data privacy and China wrt TikTok, Meta gave U.S. data to China before TikTok even existed

Only beneficiaries of misinformation would block efforts to curtail its amplification via scale apparatuses like social media. Deliberately injecting the notion of the protection of ‘free speech’ is designed to legitimise broadcasting mis/disinformation.
Free speech =/= freedom of amplification.
The Australian government won’t proceed with legislation that would have forced social media sites to crack down on misinformation on their platforms after failing to win enough cross-party support.

Short term, denial helps us cope. Long term, we collectively come undone.

The danger is desensitization: we need urgent collective action not passive acceptance.
