A nice day for a Labor Day Ralley! Or maybe a Music Festival? I made a zine for the occasion. I can't wait for Midterms! #laborday #protest #zine

The front page lists upcoming elections, specifically the U.S. Midterm Elections of 2026, which includes one-third U.S. Senate seats, all House of Representative seats, half of Florida State Senate seats, and all of Florida State House of Representative seats. The page also encourages the reader to vote in local elections, such as County, Town, City, Municipality, and School District Elections, and to visit their Board Meetings which are often posted to their website. The inner spread of the zine, titled "In Case You Missed It", has several important news stories that are ongoing. A short summary of the stories are as follows: Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and FDOT removing the Pulse memorial rainbow crosswalk. The Federal Judge injunction to remove Alligator Alcatraz after a lawsuit was filed by environmental groups and the Miccosukee Tribe. Governors in 19 states, including Florida, have agreed to the deployment of National Guard to their state. In related news, the National Guard in D.C. have been given authorization to carry pistols and rifles. Obergefell Vs. Hodges, the Supreme Court case allowing same sex marriage, will be discussed by judges at the judges' conference on 2/29. The judges will discuss whether to reconsider the case in court. Trump wants to charge teens in D.C. as young as 14 years old as adults. Lisa Cook, Federal Reserve employee, is suing Trump for his illegal attempt to fire her. Kilmar Abrego Garcia is facing a second ICE detention, under threat of deportation to Uganda. The government is trying to coerce a guilty plea with deportation to Costa Rica instead, but he is refusing. The last page of the zine is titled "Playlist of the Summer." The zine has a section about the ongoing weeks- and months-long protests in Denver, Chicago, NYC, Phoenix, Dallas, Portland, Los Angeles, and D.C. This section of the zine explains that some people are concerned that coverage about the protests are being censored or engagement suppressed on social media. To get around that, people on social media have been refering to the protests as music festivals. Additionally, there is a small section deicated to celebrating the protest where this zine was distributed being referenced in the local newspaper. At the bottom, there is a list of sources that were used in the contruction of this zine, including U.S. Senate and House websites, the Florida Divisions of Elections website, the Supreme Court Website, Ballotpedia, NPR, WSVN, WPEC, Friend of the Everglades, Democracy Now, Pensacola News Journal, NBC, Forbes, ABC, CNN, MSNBC, and BBC.

Following is a short description of the "Big Beautiful Bill" budget reconciliation Bill H.R. 1. There is a list of Trump's goals for the bill, including: cuts to clean energy programs; cuts to food stamp programs; gives money to Elon Musk's Space X program for the "Golden Dome" project; cuts to gender-affirming care; cuts to Planned Parenthood; limits to judges' ability to enforce contempt of court charges; prevents AI regulation for 10 years; cuts to Medicaid/Medicare; increases budget for ICE/mass deportation; allows sale of public lands for mining and timber. Underneath is a call to action: call your Senators and Representatives. Recommendation to download 5Calls app. The middle spread of the June 14th Crease & Resist Zine. Required reading (all books available at the library, and on audiobook): A People's History of the United States, by Howard Zinn. A User's Guide to Democracy, by Nick Capodice and Hannah McCarthy. Let This Radicalize you, by Kelly Hayes and Mariame Kaba. A subtitle reads Local Legislation, and provides some details on local government elections and upcoming town council/commissioners regular meetings that constituants can attend. The right side lists multiple cities/towns ajoining the town that I attended for No Kings, but the blurb recommends finding your municipality by searching on your county's property appraiser's website. Then, search for your municipality's website for their next scheduled regular meeting and election. The blurb also recommends watching a livestream of the meeting online, if available, or speaking at a meeting if you go in person. Agendas are posted online before the meetings. The back page of the June 14th Crease & Resist Zine. Know Your Rights for Protesting, cited from the ACLU. 1. You don't need a permit to protest in response to breaking news, or to march along streets or sidewalks as long as you don't block traffic or access to federal buildings. 2. In public spaces, you are allowed to photograph anything in plain view, including federal buildings and police. 3. If you believe your rights have been violated: write everything down, get contacts for any witnesses, take photos of injuries. 4. If you are stopped by police, ask if you are free to go. If they say yes, calmly walk away. 5. If you are arrested, you have the right to ask why. Otherwise, say you wish to remain silent and ask for a lawyer immediately. Do not sign, say, or agree to anything without a lawyer present. 6. If you get stopped by military or law enforcement, you have a right to remain silent or tell them you will only answer questions in the presence of a lawyer/attorney, no matter your citizenship/immigration status. I got a book stamp yesterday and proceeded to stamp all of the books I've read so far and kept on my bookshelf. #booksky

Protests are good, but there is still more to do. Legislation is in session. Call/email/mail your senators/reps. They may not notice 1 or 2 calls, but 100? 1000?! Call the sens/reps on the committees reviewing bills you don't agree with. Bury them in correspondences! Show up in person if you can.

KNOW YOUR PROTEST RIGHTS: 1. You don't need a permit to protest in response to breaking news and you don't need a permit to march in the streets or along sidewalks, as long as you're not obstructing traffic or access to buildings. 2. When you are lawfully present in any public space, you have the right to photograph anything in plain view, including federal buildings and the police. 3. If you believe your rights have been violated, when you can, write down everything you remember, get contact information for witnesses, and take photographs of any injuries. 4. If you get stopped by the police, ask if you're free to go. If they say yes, calmly walk away. 5. If you get arrested, you have a right to ask why. Otherwise, say you wish to remain silent and ask for a lawyer immediately. Don't sign, say or agree to anything without a lawyer present. 6. If you get stopped by a member of the military or any law enforcement officer at a protest, you have the right to remain silent or to tell them that you'll only answer questions in the presence of an attorney - no matter your citizenship or immigration status.
