REMINDER: Wisconsin has same-day voter registration.

So, if you haven’t registered or recently moved or anything like that, you can register at your polling place (with ID and proof of residence) TODAY.

Every state should do this. It’s great that Wisconsin does this. Go vote.

now that I am safely away from Los Angeles I would just like to say thank you to all the hot men who came to AWP, your aesthetic service was deeply appreciated.

I want to note that the database used to train Meta AI included books on every topic you could ever think of, my mother’s monograph of her architecture was in the database, so were articles my aunt wrote 20 years ago on South American economies.

This is not just a problem for novelists.
IF YOU FOUND YOUR NOVEL IN THE LIBGEN DATABASE, YOU MAY BE A CLASS MEMBER FOR THE KADREY ET AL V. META PLATFORMS CLASS ACTION

Law firms you can contact if you're a potential class member:

My dad was a contributor on NPR for over 30 years and I remember like 10-12 years ago, he commented on how much more pushback he got on the content he wanted to talk about, how much more “careful” NPR was about having “measured” responses. He found it infuriating.
New: NPR's standards editor seemingly accidentally sent an email to the entire newsroom today advising All Things Considered host Ari Shapiro against attending a pride event.

Shapiro said NPR has previously allowed him to attend similar corporate events, and asked what changed.
NPR urged anchor to avoid upcoming Pride event
The public broadcaster has faced increasing pressure from the Trump administration and Republicans.

This Fiona Apple narrated explainer PSA on how to film (and release footage from, not livestream) ICE arrests is exactly what we need from people with production skills right now and is worth about 3 million celebrity “imagine” covers in terms of survival utility

I encourage Minnesotans to give Sen. Klobuchar's office a call: 202-224-3244

Let her know what you think about her strategy of finding common ground with the Nazi authoritarians currently dismantling our government and attempting to disappear trans & intersex folks and immigrants.

Michigan Quarterly Review having a contest for AI generated/LLM texts isn’t surprising but it’s still disappointing. Claiming that you want people to subvert expectations through using software that is unethical is not subversion.

Special Counsel Jack Smith said in a final report that the evidence would have been sufficient to convict Trump in a trial, had his 2024 election victory not made it impossible for the prosecution to continue.

Special Counsel Report Says Trump Would Have Been Convicted in Election Case
The report, which said the special counsel’s office stood “fully behind” the merits of the prosecution, amounted to an extraordinary rebuke of the president-elect.
