I've been told that Canadians use the same strategy even more aggressively in Cuban beach hotels. Now someone only has to connect the dots with the new situation in Venezuela.

Hoping that the street map at the back of the phone book in the next public phone booth wasn't ripped out when arriving in an unknown city, trying to find out how to get somewhere (e.g. to the hostel you had just phoned to check for vacancies without any idea how good or bad the place might be)

Perhaps the greatest irony of Putin's strategy of disrupting the rules-based global order to restore Russian greatness is that his successors are likely to discover that the disappearance of those rules leaves Russia more exposed to the opportunistic ambitions of stronger powers

During Fiona Hill's testimony to Congress on Oct 14, 2019, she described how Trump and Putin discussed exchanging Ukraine for Venezuela. The quid pro quo was if Trump refuses to help Ukraine fight off a Russian invasion, Putin would not help Venezuela (a Russian ally) resist a US takeover.

It's a terrible situation. Anybody with an inkling of history understands the gears that have been set in motion. Gravity will do the rest.

He's cosplaying "Republican President". Without at least one forced regime change (including helicopters + fireworks) in a country with palm trees the game is just not complete.

Was macht Xi? Was macht Putin?" könnte die Frage sein: Was macht Europa?

Some smart people were blaring alarm sirens in 2001 that allowing the President to do anything he wants as long as he designates it as an anti-terrorist operation will come back someday, well, it just did.
