We're a read-along book club podcast! New episodes every other Tuesday.

We have read about various world mythologies, 2/3rds of The Broken Earth Trilogy, 5 of the Arthurian Legends, and The Princess Bride.

Right now, we're reading 14, by Peter Clines
If you're unsure if you want to read a book, check out the 99th page! That's what we did for our 2nd anniversary episode. Check it out.

I've got a bot up and running for r/PodcastSharing! Any post made in that subreddit will share a link here to Bluesky! I'll probably share some of those podcasts as well if I see any that peak my interest. There's all kinds of different stuff that people will share there.

Starting a new book this week! My pal Jake Weller and I are discussing 14, by Peter Clines. It's an urban mystery from 2012, and it is one of my favorite stories that I originally read in high school. #ShareAPodcast

So I've acquired a subreddit called r/PodcastSharing. The mods were inactive, so I made a bid for it. Does anyone know how to create a bot that can share podcast links from reddit posts as BlueSky posts? Right now I'm doing it manually and that's not sustainable.

Just finished editing a book discussion that adds up to 2 hours total. Do you think I should make this a really long episode or break it up into two episodes?

Last week I finished reading Babel, by RF Kuang. It says so much about Empire, language, colonialism, racism, and strikes!

This week, a cozy book. Paladin's Grace, by T. Kingfisher. A little over halfway through, and it's an enjoyable Fantasy romance between a Paladin and a Perfumer.

This week we covered the sudden cult classic, Delay, Deny, Defend. Oddly enough, the book has little to say about health insurance. If you're interested in reading the book, save yourself some grief and get the highlights from us.

A couple of you have asked what length an SF novel should be. Here are SFWA's guidelines for the Nebula Awards:

1. Novel: Over 40,000 words
2. Novella: 17,500 - 40,000 words
3. Novelette: 7,500 - 17,500 words
4. Short story: Under 7,500 words

Hope that helps.

Our current read, The Princess Bride! We talk a lot about the book and the movie, as they were both written by William Goldman. This is a cult classic for a reason, so if you've never read it, consider reading along with us.

The direct sequel to The Fifth Season, by N.K. Jemisin. While the first book focused on how trauma affects an individual, this book focuses on how trauma affects generations. We finished reading and discussing this novel in July of '24.

Starting out, we would pick a world mythology and tell each other about our favorite stories from that culture. In this playlist, we discuss Greek, Norse, Irish Celtic, Egyptian, Buddhist, Hindu, Chinese, and Japanese myths.

In March of '24, we finished reading and talking about The Fifth Season, by N.K. Jemisin. It's a science fantasy novel about the end of the world, revenge, institutional racism, and trauma.

It's not a light read, but we'll help you through it. We promise the journey is worth it.

So not-so-fun fact: we did start up an X account earlier this year, but we didn't really do anything with it because right off the bat we saw a lot of disturbing alt-right stuff, and a short video of abuse...
