Last month I did a little experiment.

I wanted to see how the exact same post would perform on both X (Twitter) and Bluesky.

The results were...interesting...

I’ve gifted all of you this article, because I really think it is essential reading for understanding what is going on with the US government right now. I sincerely hope that we can all agree that incompetence and corruption is unacceptable and leads to worse.

People told me that as I got older I’d get more right wing. I waited for it but it hasn’t happened

What has happened and is maybe the real journey for my generation is that the enthusiastic tech-utopianism of my 20s has been replaced by dead-eyed horror and the need to scream warnings however I can

Okay, I cannot recommend 5calls.org enough. Enter your address and it will find all your reps (federal and state). AND give you a list of issues to call about AND which reps to call about each of them AND a little script for each, in case it's helpful. They have an app, too.

Hey, who wants to talk about ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING ELSE right now?
The first dinosaur fossils were identified in 1824, which means that:
George Washington (d 1799),
Napoleon Bonaparte (d 1821),
Jane Austen (d 1817),
Daniel Boone (d 1820),
all died without knowing that dinosaurs existed. 😢🦖

oh um, in case useful:

internet surfing/wikipedia rabbit-holing is a supernormal stimulus for learning. if you can't stop, you need to go and learn something very challenging and hard.

<goes back to OU MA in Classics>
I am more sorry than I can say about this but: every big information crisis leaves us interacting less with actual humans as the technologies we’ve invented can do certain things in ways that press our supernormal stimulus buttons better than people.

I retraced my steps and asked in Munchies cafe as that was the nearest spot to where I thought I had heard the clink and some kind soul handed it in and the staff had it for me. I’m in floods of tears, the chain seems gone but I have the locket. Thank you universe ❤️

“We completely misunderstood National Socialism. We knew nothing of the actual power of the movement. We didn’t think these people were intelligent enough, and believed that intelligence was what mattered in politics. 1933 was the year of our great awakening.”

Worth a listen especially until the end - on what fascism does to people, those who take part in it - how it destroys their lives.
People are talking about fascism. I've heard from people who are baffled that we haven't been speaking of fascism more and earlier, and from people who want to know what it means – and from people who want me to explain why fascism is bad.
