The insulator is octagonal with a depression in the center equivalent to approximately the bottom quarter of a sphere. On the base, lines radiate from the flat center like a daisy. There are many small scratches, chips, and flea bites in the likely Victorian-era glass. Insulators were used on heavy furniture both to protect flooring and, in the case of pianos, dampen sound vibrations.
