Mike McVey converted Woodelf Hero, picture taken for White Dwarf 148 published in 1992! Here the same model is described as a Level 10 Hero, something which I still refer to from Oldhammer rule sets. My version of the great Mike McVey model, I hope here you can get the same flavour as that of the model. I used the a spare attack chariot horse and a different embossed shield. 🛡️ I also made the feathers and mushroom from green stuff. I have tried to replicate the saddle cloth with green stuff. The lance is a dark elf lance instead….the back banner is made in the same method as Mike, and eagle wing glued to metal wire. Huge amount of work overall took me a month solid during COVID but the end result is my best ever miniature by a mile!

I decided to bring back the space theme on the cloak, letting the bright red fabric blend into the black and freehanded starscape with some planets and galaxies.

It's not finished yet, but I'm already loving this 😊

A four-image WIP photo collage of just the cloak that will be attached to Apollon. It is painted in saturated red and blended into space themed freehand, by transitioning the brushstroke highlights into more and more stippled texture around the same line where red turns to black in terms of color. This effect will hopefully work quite well with the overall piece that features this type of space freehand in some other parts, like the horses bodies and chariot wheels. The photography was taken in front of neutral grey background and features a small sized low opacity version of the CryoCheese icon in the bottom left corner. WIP photography of "Apollon, god of sun", which is part of the chariot figure sold by Kimera Models under the same name. So far on this work-in-progress state, it's painted with desaturated dark red skin, shiny light grey metal armor with blue and purple color influences within the NMM and a green orb at the center of the open stomach cavity, which is painted with different spiral-shapes. The orb is painted to appear as emitting light in the same colors, primarily hitting the inner walls of said cavity as well as the openings of the armors chest plate. Additionally, the figure is wielding a flaming sword with bright yellow core color, blended into pink and purple before reaching the edges of the flame, which are green and blue. Some small spikey details as well as the decorative structures attached to Apollons back are sketched to appear as a brass nmm. Phil's been talking up #OnBloodyGround and is currently working on a Persian army. I did mention I had an used Athenian army painted over a decade back so I they might be getting dusted off... (does the curse of the newly painted unit apply of they were painted 12 years ago?)
