Today's lesson for Black History Month is US Army Lt. Henry O. Flipper, one of the "Buffalo Soldiers" of the 10th Cavalry Regiment. In 1877 he was the first black cadet to graduate from West Point, thus also becoming the Army's first black commissioned officer.

Today's lesson in Black History Month is Jackie Robinson. Before he was immortalized as the player that broke Major League Baseball's color barrier, he was a Lieutenant in the Army during WWII and was court-martialled for his refusal to sit in the back of the bus while riding on base at Ft Hood.
