Loch an Eilein
18 × 26 cm
Gouache colour study on hot-press watercolour paper

The painting is a bit of a fun cut and shut view a là Claude Lorrain that combines the loch, the surrounding ancient pine forest, and the small wooded island to fit into the tight aspect ratio.

A more straightforward portrait this time — thanks to Callin for letting me play with his likeness.

Passing Hawthornvale the other day, I took this photo. At first glance, just a little vandalised corner plot once occupied by a builders' store, cleared to make way for redevelopment...
Or, on second glance are those glazed tiles actually the remains of the former Newhaven Police Station cells? 🧵▶️

A new mural for Dundee, painted with Martin McGuinness on Brown Street. Had so much fun painting this one as it’s been a while since we have done a big figurative piece.

Thanks to the help of the technicians at Edinburgh Sculpture workshop, the reliefs now have a running system, been degreased and now have there first coating( of many) in ceramic shell. Drying before another coating today

Here is a wax from the previous silicone mould. A ceramic shell will be built up in layers around this, then the wax will be burnt out in the kiln, leaving a relief-shaped cavity for the metal to be poured into. I’m currently testing @flashes.blue, which turns Bluesky into an instagram alternative.

‘researchers also found that "users with access to GenAl tools produce a less diverse set of outcomes for the same task, compared to those without.’

As any artist who has experimented with the current ai models will tell you, the midpoint is rarely a place one finds interesting artistic outcomes.

What a fantastic idea: a website that mimics TikTok but feeds you random Wikipedia facts instead of videos. Seems like a useful way to keep the scrolling reflex busy while actually learning something.

Silicone moulds made at Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop, ready for wax casting using the ceramic shell method—a lost wax process for metal casting. These pieces will likely be cast in bronze and installed in Pennywell, North Edinburgh

A 3D-printed relief, soon to be cast in bronze—inspired by a now-demolished mural in North Edinburgh. Any guesses which one?
