Mom, wife, former teacher. Puerto Rican born on the island, raised in the diaspora, and finally back home.
I feel like I keep finding pieces of myself that are being healed by coming back to Puerto Rico. It’s been more than three years and I keep finding reasons to be thankful for returning.

NEW: Epstein survivors release the most powerful PSA I have ever seen.

Make this go viral so every member of the House of Representatives sees it.

Yesterday my kid and my husband made pancakes for breakfast and I got this note. 🥰 (also, someone is clearly growing up Spanish/English bilingual)

When I think about the best part of living in Puerto Rico again, the end of seasonal depression is high on my list.

If you’re wondering how bleak the economic situation is right now, I just heard a commercial for a job fair exclusively for senior citizens. 🫠

A student told me I speak English really well. I had to explain that I was raised in the United States. The students then wanted to know how I learned to speak Spanish so well.

Bienvenida a la familia Rosie. Ella apareció en el portón de casa y no había forma de dejarla sola afuera.

One of my favorite things about being back in Puerto Rico (even as a neurospicy introvert) is the way people greet you when they come in the room and say goodbye as they’re leaving. I’m at the doctor’s office and the lady leaving says, “I hope you leave soon” because no one likes a waiting room.

I’ve noticed the cool boys at the school I work at are frosting their tips. Not sure if this is a local trend or if my adolescence is back in everywhere.

Thinking of my former students, colleagues, and neighbors in DC and thinking about how this fucking administration, with their unchecked racism, xenophobia, classism, and lies, has earned their place in hell.

No llegué ni a la lista de espera pero gracias a unas amistades estoy aquí. Yo soy de P fucking Erre

We said goodbye to the absolute best cat in the world today. Julius was the loudest purrer & the most patient cat. When my daughter was a baby, he would stay beside her and watch over her. She’d lay her head on his belly and he’d purr. Julius you are so loved and we are thankful that you were ours.

Today I woke up thinking about how the greed of those at the top can never be satisfied so I guess it’s going to be one of those days

This is Julius. When we first brought him home, he developed an upper respiratory infection and the vet told me that it was very possible that he wouldn’t make it. But he did. Twelve years later he’s really sick and I’m so afraid to lose him. He’s the absolute best cat.

I’ve been learning Haitian Creole on Duolingo and it’s been full of fun translations like “Paris the fashion capitol but the French learn from Haiti, Martinique, and Guadalupe”. 10/10 highly recommend.

It’s the Fourth of July so I’m going to be wearing my “Puerto Rico is a colony” shirt. The United States is an imperial power and has been for centuries. This isn’t new.

Everything is terrible but I’m listening to Afro Beat and remembering every former student who has introduced me to genres of music from outside my culture. There are sparks of beauty.

I told my kid I’m going back to school in August and she said “You’re going to be the oldest person at school!” She’s committed to keeping me humble

They bend every law, they break every law, they hack voting machines, they deploy roving gangs of thugs to steal people off the street, they openly embrace racism, they lie nonstop, they incite political violence, and much more. Their evil knows no limits. Then they claim to be followers of Jesus.

This is the kind of ruling that means we’ll be losing more teachers. I will not be able to go back. Lesson planning will be impossible. They wanted to make such a statement on “freedom of religion” that they didn’t consider the practical consequences of this for educators.
SCOTUS says kids can opt out of classes with LGBTQ book characters
At issue was whether school systems are required to provide parents with an "opt-out" option when parents claim their religious beliefs conflict with their children's course material.

It’s almost like we saw this coming.
ICE is basically going after people based on their skin color, race, or ethnicity. They’re detaining U.S. citizens and people who have a right to be here.

It’s mass racial profiling.
