What came after Imamoglu investigation is even disappointing for pro-AKP side. It was already absurd to claim Imamoglu and his team were stealing millions, not because they're pure, but they were under immense pressure by the government.

I see many people comparing the outcome of new regime in Turkey to Russian case, but this seems a very weird comparison to me. Putin does have the support of a vast majority of Russians. You can't simply run a government in Turkey without the half of the country's consent.

If you look like this before your 50s, you must've had a pretty rough life. I mean colonizing India.

I officially have more followers here than my Twitter account with almost no posts. You know what that means...

I don't know if the Turkish government has plans for post-Assad Syria, but the worst-case scenario would be an unstable and fragile democracy that would end in a military takeover. Even for the Turkish government, a stable Assad regime is way better than an unstable Syria with too many armed groups.

Is Italian government trying to say 'although all our educational institutions think that you're qualified to pursue degree in our universities, we just don't want Turkish students in our country'? Isn't taking this action only against Turkey-based students a very explicit form of racism?

Thanksgiving is on the way and I'd like to clarify the confusion regarding the name of turkey (bird) and Turkey (country). Turkish government is so sensitive in this topic that they convinced the world to call the country with it's Turkish pronunciation of its name, which is actually an Italian word

It was also the case in *some other countries*, but I'm not sure how effective it is. IMO, if a media outlet changes its political lineage its audience turns to other channels that represent their views. The problem is not that people are fooled, but channels are forced to polarize their stands.
In Hungary, a key Orbán tactic in dismantling their democracy was that his allies bought media outlets that were critical of the regime and turned them into loyal cheerleaders for the regime.

I was lucky enought to get hundred new followers with an account in which my last post was seven months ago. I'm afraid to post anything now, what if people find out I'm not even fun? Anyways, this account is definitely luckier than my account in the birdie one, 300 followers in six years...

I realized I am not spending much time on Bluesky because I don't see the content that makes me furious. It's all so good here. I understand the importance of ragebait even better now.

We need to go back to the nature. Stop calendars and clocks now. I'll work when the sun rises.

When I wake up, there are still two hours till the sunrise. This is complete madness. Every *morning* I have to get out of my bed in the middle of the night with no sunlight. It's like the whole country shifted to the night shift for winter.

"Xmas" feels like Muslim people trying to dechristianize Christmas.

In some religious high schools in Turkey, the primary foreign language was Spanish (maybe still is), and the students at the age of 15 had a whole prep year to learn Spanish, in contrast to Arabic or English. I wonder if they overemphasized the extent of Islamization in Latin America.

Turkish Directorate of Religious Affairs is looking for prospective students who would like to pursue a master's degree in Latin American Studies in countries like Argentina, Colombia, Venezuela, etc.

Twitter is like shouting random things in a noisy room full of people. Here, it feels like I am writing a journal. At least, you can understand the silence.

Recently I've been reading Johann Hari's Stolen Focus, which made me really depressed regarding my zero attention life style. Now I realize Bluesky is much more peaceful comparing to Twitter, I may even consider making a permanent move.

It is really weird to see people calling Twitter the 'X'. A rich guy's son is making the whole world his playground and no one seems to have any problem with that.

Meral Akşener iktidara 'siz böyle çok güçlüsünüz, seçimlere ayrı ayrı girseniz olmaz mı' dedi. Eğer istediği model buysa RTE'nin 50+1'den kurtulmasına yardımcı olması gerekiyor.

I realized Bluesky does not send notifications to my phone. I wonder if it's intentional since many people suggest turning off all notifications for safe use of social media.

I guess it is not possible to post 'floods' at the moment on Bluesky. Only the first post is seen in the profile.

It still surprises me to see how some Late Ottoman ulama was obsessed with connecting their religious studies to natural sciences. It seems that it became an important way of proving how Islamicate world was in touch with the positive sciences after the 'dark ages.'

This is roughly what I aimed for in an article that'll (finally) be published in Turcica later this year. The focus is on the provinces (Bosnia) rather than the center, and education instead of law, but essentially I outline a non-Eurocentric, bottom-up genealogy of late Ottoman Islamic reform.
The book seems to reject or disregard any possiblity of reformation or renewal movement that could be triggered from the Ottoman society, including ulama. Many scholars recently showed the problems of attaching and limiting the modernity to the concept of 'foreing intervention'.
