They think it's all over.

It is now. The webcams will be switched off tomorrow.

All the Osps have migrated now. We wish them a safe journey south and will be awaiting their return.

Thank you for following them and for all your support.

Thanks for that. Reduced feeding is a tactic to encourage both fledging and migration. Didn't seem a good day for the latter today! Anyone spotted YW or the cadging cousin?

YW still around delivering 🐟 to the hungry youngster, it seems YW is providing less frequently which may prompt the youngster to head off and fend for itself 🤞

Read all about it!

Our mystery chick has made it onto the BBC website. The situation with YW feeding a foster chick is unusual enough to be newsworthy.

Rain, rain. Go away?

You'd think the Cumbrian weather would be a good incentive to migrate. But it's still here. In all seriousness, we really hope it has built up enough strength for the big journey. And gives YW a bit of peace before his!

Get out of it!

Osper the Grouch, the chick that has imposed itself on YW, chases off a crow. To be fair, the nest doesn't belong to either of you!

Can the Crows get any cheekier?

"When the Osprey comes in, I bet you wouldn't dare to peck it on the bum."
"Right, you're on!"

It never ends.

YW is still bringing in food to the mystery chick who is then grabbing it without a by your leave. We've been in touch with local reserves but still no clue as to where it's from. Or when it's going!

Incoming!

The mystery chick is still here and still using the Deliverosp app to order fish from YW. This one must be due to migrate soon so YW can have a rest before his journey.

And you are?

YW gives a crow a hard stare. He's got enough on his plate with the foster fiend without having to feed the crows too.

Foulshaw's father, fisher and fighter.

Born 2008 in Cumbria and England's first Osprey nest in 150 years, he's fed and protected 32 fledged chicks and his partner of 12 years. Plus guests!
Fettling the nest for next year, he'll fly south soon. Stay safe you legend.

What are you on about?

Our visitor this morning was 6C8, a 3 year old from a private site in Cumbria, probably on the first trip back from migration to check out the old neighbourhood.

Sunrise showdown.

Osper the Grouch shouts at a visiting adult, who seems unimpressed by the antics. This other visitor has a blue ring on its right leg, meaning it's English or Welsh (Scots have them on the left.)

Compare and contrast.

Juvenile Ospreys (L) have a 'scaly' appearance with white edges to their feathers compared to the adult's (R) more uniform colour. The youngsters' eyes are an amber colour, darker than the yellow of the grown ups.

What a magical place. For nearly 10,000 years this bog has been growing, soaking up carbon from the atmosphere and providing a home for a wonderful world of wildlife.

Thank you to everyone who takes an interest and helps to support it. It means a lot.

Are you still here?

It's always awkward when nest guests overstay their welcome. The mystery chick is still ordering room service and YW is delivering.

Mine! All mine!

The ferocious feathered fish filcher guards a snack. We've not seen an intruder like this before. As YW instinctively responds to a begging call he keeps bringing food. Some of the resident chicks may have migrated now. To somewhere safer!

Ah, that's the spot!

After so much aggro lately from the irritable interloper Osp, here's something more peaceable. This is allopreening, where one crow preens hard to reach parts of another to help pair or family bonding. Back rubs for birds!

So long and thanks for all the fish.

YW delivers yet another snack only for Osper the Grouch to then chase him off with a snappy lunge. Does "overstaying your welcome" ring a bell? We're still looking into where this crabby critter is from.

Thanks for the great shots. Yes, they were escorted from the premises pretty rapidly!
@foulshaw2.bsky.social Blue 417 tried to land on the nest but was chased away by the un-ringed juvenile that has taken over the nest. Blue 417 is a 2020 chick from a nest in the Lake District.

Nah, no sign of sign of fish here...

Hot pursuit.

YW arrives with a flounder rapidly followed by the grouchy extra chick. It may have had a parent that was injured and not been fed for a while. Which would explain the appetite! Investigations continue.

Fish? Stick!

The extra chick prepares to pounce on YW to grab some grub, only to discover it's branch, not brunch.
Perhaps YW is trying to tell it something...

Supper al fresco.

Young Osps are now skilled enough to eat in a tree like this one, silhouetted against the evening sky. It's not easy balancing on a branch while holding a fish. As you'll know if you've ever tried.

Those kids always leave the place in such a mess...

Dad does a bit of nest work in preparation for next year. He's been maintaining this nest for 12 years now and has fed 32 chicks that have flown from it. Hats off, mister!

Misty morning mood.

A lovely sunrise at Foulshaw. Not much action on the nest these days as the Bobs are hanging out in other trees and having fun chasing crows - and each other.
