The USDA says it lacks the legal authority to use contingency funds for food assistance benefits, increasing the likelihood that millions of people will go without aid next month.

Thieves using skimmers steal about $1M a month from households that use SNAP, often leaving them with no way to buy food for their families. The long-term solution is replacing the current EBT cards with chip & pin cards. In the meantime, the state must return to replacing stolen funds.

Research shows that there is very little difference between the shopping carts of people who use SNAP and people who don't. Restricting food choices simply makes it harder to shop.

SNAP reduces hunger & strengthens local economies. It helps 1,105,569 Massachusetts people put food on the table. They include 19,991 veterans. Of the households who use SNAP, 80% include someone who works, 44% an older adult, 40% w/ children, 50% w/ disability.
