I couldn't believe The Names by @florenceknapp.bsky.social was a debut novel; it's just so perfectly executed. I gasped, I laughed, and at one point I cried so loudly my husband looked up from across the room and said, "It's that book, huh?" Highly recommend!

Three versions of a life, and a family - utterly absorbing and deeply poignant debut novel.

This is lovely - thank you, Wade ☺️.
Book #11 for 2025:

The Names by Florence Knapp (2025)

A story so engrossing, it’s easy to forget just how much her language pops at times. Lots of ‘oh, damn’ moments for me on word use alone. Won’t forget this one for a long time

@bertsbooks.bsky.social I want to send a book as a gift and wondered if it’s possible to include a brief note with the order?

Cora’s split-second decision regarding the name of her newborn son shifts her family's future into three different paths.

Three names, three versions of a life & the infinite possibilities that a single decision can spark.

Postage is free and the books arrive tied with a satin ribbon📚🎗️(and seeing this post was excellent timing, as the new Curtis Sittenfeld is now heading my way).
Time for a bit of reality - a thread.

Sales in the shop are doing well, but we're reliant on sales on the website to help pay the bills.

The website is reliant on social media, particularly twitter.

Since September, we've seen a big decline in people seeing our tweets.

An awful photo (taken from a stepladder, with a stomach-churning fear of heights), but somehow this lone rose is still going at the end of November and miraculously survived Storm Bert where even a fence panel didn’t 💫🌸.

Having loved The Snow Child, I’d preordered a copy of this, but am delighted to receive a proof a few months ahead of its arrival - thank you so much @tinderpress.bsky.social - this is a real treat 💙🐻🪵. (And can keep the preorder to give to a friend who’d also enjoyed Eowyn’s previous novel :)

This is gorgeous. I fell in love with it fairly late on when something in the dynamic between the dog and narrator shifts and really comes to life. So many wise observations on grief, writing, reading, and the bond between animals and humans. One I’d like to reread.

Listening to Western Lane by Chetna Maroo today brought an end to a curiously bookless few weeks. Wonderful characters and I love novels with an intense amount of detail around someone learning or doing a particular thing - in this case playing squash.
