I just defended my PhD dissertation, which examines the distributive politics and unequal consequences of natural resource governance in South America, using cases of gold mining in Brazil and deforestation in Bolivia.

Rural areas are conservative electoral strongholds in the United States and other advanced capitalist economies. But this was not always the case. What explains the rise of rural conservatism? In 2024, #Bolivia experienced its most extensive forest #fires on record, with the burned area exceeding the size of Portugal.
