Snowy day for the Roman cavalry ☃️❄️🌨️

I reworked one of the figures from last year’s Northern Lights piece to create this scene of a cavalryman and his loyal steed walking in the snow ❄️ I liked it so much that I’m now posting it as its own illustration - the scene is just so tranquil 🌨️

This was a very green year for me art-wise, maybe some of these complimentary colors can inform next year's art. Inspired by @samanthamash.bsky.social's and @flaroh.bsky.social's pantone posts.

2024 Winter postcard for my Patrons! This is part of my story, #Widderwood, showing the cultural depiction of death's mare taking away bickerment letters- end of year cards airing grievances for the new year.

Happy Winter Solstice!

On midwinter’s day, the sun sets between the pair of stones that form the largest trilithon at #Stonehenge

Farewell to the shortest day of the year, as we look forward to lighter days ahead! ☀️

Happy winter solstice!🌞 I travelled to the Mithraeum at Brocolitia on Hadrians Wall to see the suns alignment with the temple… and the Northern weather really delivered 🤣

Something a bit different for #FindsFriday - this is a lock of hair that once belonged to a Roman woman. She was buried at Poundbury in Dorset and her body was packed in gypsum, which preserved her carefully plaited locks. Now in @dorsetmuseum.bsky.social.

🏺🌲🪔 Io Saturnalia!🪔🌲🏺

#OTD from Dec 17-23, Romans celebrated the god Saturn by feasting, exchanging gifts, lighting lamps, and switching up the normal societal class structures 🪔🌲🥧

This illustration is from my series depicting Saturnalia in Hadrians Wall country (more below)🏛️🌲

On one hand, beginning this part time job in the heritage sector has completely revived my inspiration and urge to create. On the other hand though, I now have drastically less time to draw on top of admin, keeping a tidy home, and seeing my friends 😅
