What's in a name? The Whisky Exchange's Welcome to Whisky offered much more than the name suggests with over 300 drams included in the ticket price and distilleries I've never heard of, let alone tried before.

Plus my favourite ever/most bizarre tasting note... quaffed.wordpress.com/2025/04/15/t...

Huge thanks @TheWhiskyWire.bsky.social for tonight's fabulous @Tastings.bsky.social #WemyssMalts. 4 great drams and I loved them all. My favourite was so close but I think The Quarter Passed just pipped The Intrepid Mariner and I can't resist the Velvet Fig
Tonight, we've shared, sipped and savoured a quaffable quartet of wondrous Wemyss whisky wares. What are your overall thoughts and highlights? #WemyssMalts #Scotch #Whisky

A woof of filthy, dirty smoke, burning lump of coal on a rug, iodine, brick dust, chai, nail varnish remover, blacksmith banging a horseshoe into shape, burnt sugar, baked apple with cloves and sultanas, and a banked fire and gingersnaps finish #WemyssMalts

👃 - Yes, peat, with germoline. But it’s no one trick pony. It comes with brown sauce, cooked bacon, with a honey glaze. It’s dusty and sooty, with peaches and lychees, bring a lovely fruitiness to the mix. #WemyssMalts
It’s time to move onto our fourth and final dram of the night and a very old favourite of ours from their core collection; Wemyss Malts – Peat Chimney. What does this dish up and deliver on the nose? #WemyssMalts #Scotch #Whisky

The colour of Sauvignon blanc, the nose has coal smoke, brick dust, iodine, Brighton mint rock, copper coal scuttle & brass ash bucket, pulpy newspaper, ink-splattered silver inkwell, salt water taffy, root beer, cinnamon twists, liquorice root, fresh ginger, orange sorbet & tangerines #WemyssMalts

So soft with orange biscuits, milk chocolate raisins, chai, pineapple chunks, M&S coconut & raspberry loaf, crystallised ginger, dark-chocolate enrobed ginger, chicken Jalfrezi with mango chutney, hay and graphite powder, and a Jamaica gingercake finish #WemyssMalts

Bunnahabhain has earned a reputation as the more understated among Islay Malts, characterized by a unique oiliness and a hint of sea air, distinguishing it from the predominantly peaty whiskies produced on the island… #WemyssMalts #Scotch #Whisky

The colour of Pinot Grigio, the nose is nutty with pistachio and honey cashews, pecan Danish with sugar glaze, lemon drizzle cake, sponge fingers, vanilla fudge, Maltesers, orange & toffee Revels, and silver polish #WemyssMalts

That's so smooth, with rum and raisin fudge, buttered corn on the cob, orange pannacotta, crème caramel, milk chocolate dipped fig, chocolate Matchsticks, gingernuts, gingersnaps stuffed with vanilla cream & nutmeg, and a pear & ginger tart finish #WemyssMalts

This third iteration of the legendary Velvet Fig, which was matured exclusively in six first-fill Sherry casks filled in 2012, underwent a five-month marrying period in Sherry-seasoned oak, which is said to have imparted a richer, more velvety flavour profile. #WemyssMalts #Scotch #Whisky

Dram 2: Velvet Fig. 12yrs. 46%abv

Nose: Varnish, black plum skins, fresh figs on verge of going over, oaky, back of hand takes it to dried fig territory, with that sticky sweetness.

An amber colour, the nose is a bouquet of roses, hyacinths, carnations and spun sugar with crème brûlée, crème caramel, orange pannacotta, Terry's milk chocolate orange, salted caramel cheesecake, hot brioche with butter, and buttered popcorn. So sherried! #WemyssMalts

👅 - The palate is strong. Sweetness comes with honey and icing sugar, there are no vegetal notes, just lots of gorgeous tropical fruits. Time brings things from the back of a decorators van, linseed oil, and that dustiness slowly comes through. #WemyssMalts
Let’s get this dramming show on the road by kicking off with our first dram; Wemyss Malts – A Quarter Passed. What does it dish up and deliver on the nose? #WemyssMalts #BePartOfTheDramfotainment #Scotch #Whisky

Finish: lingering tropical fruit, ginger spice and a little honey.

What a cracking dram, really enjoyed that, right on the edge of spice taking over - it's like a cask strength Spice King!

A woof of spice and smoke. There's creosote, cordite, burning iron metal filings, burning sage, liquorice, quails' eggs with celery salt, brick dust, decorator at the end of the day covered in plaster, paint and wax floor polish, with a factory fire, gingersnaps and liquorice finish #WemyssMalts
