Ok, Team: add to the list of things to be careful with on the board (drawing rockets, baseball bats, etc.).

Yesterday working an innocuous block at rest on inclined plane, I labeled friction “Ffs”.🫣

Be safe out there.

My first school used PBIS. Yikes!😳

I made it three years, but I think PBIS is mostly hype, and what Modesto schools are seeing probably isn’t too surprising for any school using PBIS.

Just back from our first XC invitational meet of the year. The Team did great, but I’m here to say:

Any time the coaches are also teachers at the school, it’s a GOOD thing. It’s about relationships, perspective, and balance.

Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.🫡

Checked equipment for tomorrows kinematics lab #1, and unboxed a couple new buggy carts.

Nicely done Arbor Scientific. Nicely done.😎

Hannah Fry on why the London Underground is so warm (hot!) in the summer now.

Seems like good potential for thermodynamics discussion.🤔

(spoiler: has to do with clay it’s built through and all the trains / ppl that move through it daily).

Biggest SY accomplishment: declared pandemic over & got back to pacing/depth of 2018-19.

Sure, some covid learning loss, but more convinced it’s student (& parent) resistance to getting back to where we were.

Those easy As, completion credit, test corrections were a sweet deal.😉

@science.org: REALLY liking the new format.😎

Fellow science Ts: I’ve been an AAAS member for about 10 years, and have found Science to be a great tool to get at my scientific literacy skills (I also feel the first time my students read an actual scientific article shouldn’t be in college).

Peace!

Just finished reading John Green’s “Everything is Tuberculosis.”

Outstanding.👍👍👍

Too late to get it on my school’s summer reading list (our library already has it - science, science history, and social justice, good stuff!) but next year for sure.

Peace!

Really not trying to cause any problems, but how can there even be “hundreds of books” about putting?

You hit a little ball into a cup with a stick on level ground covered with well-maintained grass. Aren’t you overthinking it?🤔

I mean throw in some windmills or Godzilla, and I get it.

Not dancing on their grave, but I find it sort of ironic that Chegg is suing Google for ruining their business due to the effect of Google’s large language models.🙃

Students figured out pretty quick that they no longer have to pay to look up answers.

This photo from CNN today on a story on the Reagan Airport crash struck me.

Two firefighters rendering honors to two of the Soldiers killed in the crash.

The don’t know the persons’ race or sex / gender. They only know they were US Soldiers.

Something cadet bone spurs will never understand.

Reinstituted written lab reports last year after my higher ed peers asked (demanded!) based on their experiences with first year college physics students.

I was agnostic at first, as I felt we met learning objectives well with our "board meetings" (group discussions) after labs.

Catching up on reading & just read this in Science:

Link: www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

Bottom line: gender gap in physics, etc., degrees closing at more selective unis.🤔

I just checked ERIC & only abstract, but good summary here: www.sciencedaily.com/releases/202...

Team - we’re looking at summer reading books (already) & I just completed Dava Sobel’s latest “The Elements of Marie Curie: How the Glow of Radium Lit a Path for Women in Science.”

I’m recommending it 👍

Data point: first time since the pandemic that I feel my students really mastered N3L.

Willing to accept there was some covid learning loss, but think bigger problem was many students got used to lower expectations & resisted getting back in the fight.

Unit assessment Thursday.🫡
