“What the fuck?” she whispered. She reached forward and grabbed Lucian by the front of his shirt as if she had asked a profound question.

She shrugged. “Eh. I don’t know, I don’t want to have to face all the…” she trailed off and rubbed the area in front of her abdomen, “inside stuff. Besides, everyone makes it a guessing game of what’s wrong with them, and I’ve given up trying to do the heavy lifting for them.”

Sometimes I think that word count limits can be a little stingy.

Then I read Hunchback of Notre-Dame and there are chapters upon chapters just describing the city and architecture in detail with no narration whatsoever.

“You need to be prompted to talk about yourself?” Hyejin asked.
“How else do I know if people care? I hear people say all sorts of things that I don’t care about.”
“Like what?”
“Ah, but where would I begin? When did I last see you?”

As he grew up, he had found around him nothing but hatred. What wonder that he should have caught it! He had contracted it—he had but picked up the weapon that had wounded him. - THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE-DAME, by Victor Hugo (1831)

It's all "return to work" hybrid.

For a hot 15 minutes, a large piece of my freshly edited document went missing. Just like video games that I tend to abandon if the save is corrupted, I fear I would have neglected editing this for a long time if it was actually gone.

“Have you all gone mad?” Briony demanded. She had always been so composed, but as time went on, she began to fray at the edges. “We’re what, supposed to dance with the fucking thing and hope we can tango right on past?”

OK, I know I'm out of touch and that these books aren't new, but is it a coincidence that the names of the books "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo" and "The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle" are so similar?
