February is going to be a busy time! I'm excited to join the @linneansociety.bsky.social Symposium on Exploring Queerness in Natural History, give a talk to lovely people with Margate Pride, and finally, #QueerNature is returning to the Powell-Cotton Museum. Now where did I put the lonzenges?
Had a lovely time yesterday! Thank you to the organisers and all the other speakers who gave me so much to think about and reading materials and exciting projects to look up 📚📑
We had a wonderful time yesterday at Exploring Queerness in Natural History.

We're writing up it up to share in a future blog post, but for now here are some pictures of our fantastic curators @aquadan1.bsky.social and Connor Butler, the lunchtime zine-making, and our afternoon panellists.

Solidarity with @pcsunion.bsky.social workers at the British Library.

300 workers on strike. Some of them having to take second jobs or taking out loans just to be able to survive.

A Pay "award" below inflation is a pay cut. Unacceptable.

Solidarity - and keep organising! ✊🏼

Throwback to one of my internship projects, which ultimately resulted in the disposal of several hundred gross storage boxes, replaced by shiny new ones. It's been nearly 6 years since then! #museum30 #box

13 hours left ⚠️ Please share. Six families are STILL at risk of dying from famine, exposure, illness…

The same core legends always share and personally I’ve maxed out every friend & family member! I have donated every paycheck for months. It’s a statistics game to reach people who can give.

Had a lovely evening at @linneansociety.bsky.social, listening to @aquadan1.bsky.social and generally being nerdy about #QueerNature, queer people in the sciences and why it's important to talk about both. Always great to hear different perspectives, Thank you! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

Just over a week until I'm putting my #scicomm degree to good use, and #QueerNature launches at the Powell-Cotton. Come along for LGBTQ+ animals and an all-round fun day out. Tour attendance will support our local, #MargatePride 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️
It's happening!

Today in the UK, the Online Safety Act (2023) came into force. This means that social media companies are required to undertake age verification for users in the UK to see "adult content". And who decides what is and is not "adult content"? The social media companies themselves.

As part of my Master's project at Uni Edinburgh, I developed "Queer Nature". The guided tour explores LGBTQ+ behaviours in animals, based on the dioramas at the Powell-Cotton Museum. Yesterday was the first time I presented it to a small audience, to prepare for its launch in August 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

This statement about the transphobic Supreme Court ruling by the UK's Crab Museum (yes a museum about crabs) is better than 99% of the statements I've seen on the topic
