🚨BREAKING: Escalating violence in #DRCongo has displaced hundreds of thousands, deepening the humanitarian crisis. Oxfam has temporarily suspended its operations in #Goma for safety. We urgently call for civilian protection and an end to all hostilities.

"Inequality is also deeply entrenched within sub-Saharan African countries themselves. To reduce inequality meaningfully, governments must prioritize public spendings on education, health, and social protection. They also need to adopt more progressive tax systems." - @fatihassane.bsky.social

Ancestral knowledge isn't just history. When colonial systems remove Indigenous people from their land, we lose more than territory. We lose entire ecosystems, cultural practices, and ways of understanding the world.

We are in a billionaire economy, influenced by billionaires and designed to serve the interest of billionaires, at our expense.

Workers from the Global South provide 90% of the world's work and receive only 21% of the revenue.

We need to dismantle the billionaire economy.

More in our report.
PRESS RELEASE: Billionaire wealth surges by $2 trillion in 2024, 3 times faster than the year before, while the number of people living in poverty has barely changed since 1990.

At this pace, we won’t see 1 trillionaire in a decade, but 5.

Did you know that you should end your alt text with a period?

"End alt text with a period, even if it isn’t a full sentence. The period ensures that the screen reader pauses after reading the alt text."

This was a new tip for me. Glad to learn something new!

Tax incentives are often used to attract foreign investment & boost growth by creating jobs, increasing exports & technology transfer. Instead, in some african countries, harmful tax incentives have led to revenue losses, economic inequality & fiscal inefficiency ➡ africa.oxfam.org/latest/publi...

If we agree that the climate crisis is caused by human activity,

Then we agree rich countries' industrial activity caused it,

Then we agree they must take responsibility for its catastrophic effect,

Then we agree they must pay for mitigation as well as loss and damage.

#COP29
#TaxTheRich
🌍 Rich nations fuel the climate crisis, yet pledged just $300B a year at #COP29 —far from the $1.5T needed & mostly as loans, deepening Africa’s debt.

But Africa’s resilience remains strong. Let’s demand #ClimateJustice louder than ever ! 👇 @fatihassane.bsky.social

#TaxTheRich : this is how it's done!
Look at African countries holding the line, once again showing up as one and paving the way for the #UNTaxConvention.
Negotiations on the text and two early protocols to start in 2025.
