Donald Trump, his policies, and the enablers in the Republican party are overwhelmingly unpopular in the US. If we ALL show up in November, no matter our party, and if we ALL vote Democrat, even though they are less than perfect, no amount of fraud, no amount of gerrymandering, nothing will keep Republicans in control. We have the power to remove Trump and his entire fascist crew, put the US back on track and begin to repair the damage they have done. VOTE!

From my second book, Ocean. (alt text edited for length.) I drew on recollections of my own first dive. It is still an emotional memory.
She had been lying on the deck of Doug's boat one day, basting herself with lotion, when there were a couple of loud clunks. "Hey Nic!" With a groan, she reached behind to secure her top and rolled over. Doug was at the top of the stairs with wetsuits, flippers, masks, and air tanks with regulators. "Shall we?" "Um..." she really didn't want to, but she liked this guy. "I guess... I don't know how. Isn't it dangerous?" "Don't worry, we won't go deep enough to worry about much, and I'll give you a quick primer. You are going to love this!" Oh boy, had he been right. When she first fell backwards off the boat after being taught about clearing her mask and following her bubbles on the way up, she had panicked a little and flailed her way to the surface, gulping air. Doug had followed her, laughing. "Just breathe normally." Steeling her nerves, she did. In seconds, she realized that she could indeed breathe under water, and she opened her eyes. It was an hour before she thought of returning to the surface. Scuba diving was like flying through an alien biome, cruising alongside brilliantly patterned fish, manta rays undulating through the water, a turtle floating overhead, a nurse shark cruising the sands below her. The boy with the boat had gone the way of most adolescent romances, born of hormones and unable to survive actual emotional intimacy. Her love of the underwater world, however, had never left, becoming the driving force in her life, culminating in this mission.

Kiko, the interim story of as yet indeterminate length that falls between my second novel, Ocean, and third, Moon, is now up to 2100 words. Maybe this means I have broken my block. Moon is still stalled, but I am writing, and this story informs Moon, so fingers crossed.
