NYC public school parents: give us a follow!

Fighting for inclusive, equitable and honest public education in NYC.
Let’s get ready to vote Mamdani in. The CEC election process needs reform before anything gets handed over but we believe Mamdani can get the right team on board to figure it out. And we know that he will stand up for ALL our kids.
Remember: Early voting starts this Saturday, Oct. 25. That's also the last day to register to vote.

We are glad to see the DOE standing up for all our kids. And hope this push back continues for our trans kids, for our immigrant kids, for our Black and brown kids, for our IEP kids. For ALL our kids.
The Trump administration revoked $47 million for 19 NYC schools after the district refused to scrap protections for trans students. Now, the city is fighting back in court.

A great idea. Giving schools control of the streets in front of their buildings for extra space is a no brainer. And also a lot safer for our kids.
Call me crazy, but I think public space should actually benefit schools, the kids that live in the city, and residents

A lot of loud people are talking about Mamdani’s statement re ending G&T. The sky is not falling. Smaller class sizes are rolling out! All our students will get more individualized attention which is huge! Also: segregation is not good. It is unclear how Mamdani could support its perpetuation.

We hope Chancellor Aviles-Ramos continues to stand by the policies that protect NYC kids even as Adams makes ridiculous statements. The time to stand up for all our kids is now - particularly as huge cuts to ELL programming are threatened as well.

“On at least two occasions during executive board meetings of the school's parent group, [Mark Levine’s hand-picked board member Sam Lo] described students on individualized education plans as ‘retards.’”

Wishing I could have my primary vote for comptroller back….
The anti-trans resolution that roiled one of Manhattan's public school parent councils for the last year and a half has finally been rescinded.

Does that mean the District 2 council has put messy factional politics behind it?

Nah.

Manhattan's Anti-Trans School Sports Resolution Is Finally Dead
But why did Borough President Mark Levine just hand control of the council back to the people who backed it?

A great article that captures the many concerns with the two boro president appointees / future direction of the board (and disappointment in Mark Levine) - even as parents are thrilled with the overturn of the anti-trans resolution.

We are just a group of tired parents who want to see positive change for ALL kids in this city, and we are early in our efforts, but we whole heartedly endorse Mamdani for Mayor.

We hope everyone who can vote gets out there in November to send a clear message that we want to go forward.
Awful and dangerous to hear the Mayor echo the transphobic bigotry coming from the Trump administration. It's completely at odds with the values of our city and another reason why his single, disgraced term in office cannot end soon enough.

We look forward to keeping a close eye on CEC D2 but also expanding to help push other CECs to do right by all kids - supporting high quality education and schools where every student is safe and accepted.

The anti-trans resolution that caused all the attention on D2 CEC in the first place has been repealed. Whether Mark Levine’s appointees will vote for anything else progressive or will side with PLACE for inequality (as Sam Lo’s social media posts imply) and defunding remains to be seen.
We will be live posting the D2 CEC meeting that starts at 6:30 tonight. 100 Hester Street (MS 131)
Also you can watch online (zoom) or via the CEC2 YouTube channel.

Mark Levine’s office says that they have asked Sam Lo - one of their appointees - to resign after seeing some of his public statements on social media. These appointments matter to parents - why didn’t they any due diligence before? What if Sam Lo refuses to resign?
We aren’t going to let this go. We don’t want Maud 2.0 on the D2 CEC. Withdraw the appointments @marklevinenyc.bsky.social

New Mexico just made history, becoming the first state to guarantee universal, no-cost child care for EVERY family. THIS is the kind of leadership New York’s working families and educators need + NOW is the time for @governor.ny.gov and our State Legislature to deliver truly universal child care ✊🏾✊🏽

With everything that is going on in y the world @marklevinenyc.bsky.social is siding with regressive, segregation supporting, republicans in his appointments to the D2 CEC. Unacceptable. Join us in telling his office that we won’t stand for this.

This is a rich statement coming from someone who we believe is about to appoint MAGA-lite individuals to the D2 CEC as a political favor. Revolting from someone who pretended to care.
Let’s be clear: Trump intervening in the NYC mayor’s race will be political poison to any candidate who benefits.

Interesting timing! Craig Slutzkin (the disappearing and reappearing PLACE officer also on CEC2…) abstained from voting on a resolution to support trans students. So guess it’s also back to Maud politics for him?

CEC 2: July Meeting Update - off to a great start: CEC 2 Member Allyson Bowen killed the vote on a resolution to affirm that all immigrant students in are welcome and safe in our schools *and* that ICE is not welcome.

Always a great look to be supporting ICE and not kids Allyson!
