Please circulate this. Newer data that suggests that SATs "may suit Ivies", when subject to omitted variables like family income and race, is a poorer predictor than HS grades. And colleges with public purpose certainly shouldn't require them. #CollegeAdmissions #SATDebate

Why the SAT Is a Poor Fit for Public Universities (opinion)
The SAT may suit the Ivies, but it undermines the mission of America’s public institutions.

Well, well, well. The Mississippi Miracle not so much. 3rd grade gate took lowest 10% of readers out of the NAEP pool inflating numbers. And the "race gap" got no better. 8th grade NAEP stagnant. Journalists need some more stats training. #NAEP

We shouldn't allow the federal mission of supporting at-risk student populations be jeopardized. Farming key DOE functions to the Labor Department or HHS is not helpful in that regard. Make your voice heard.

We've updated our landscape of state graduation exams. Only 6 states maintain high state exit exams. There is a realization that high school needs to be about building real world knowledge and skills. And ELA exams don't make kids go out and read novels.

IHE puts Princeton decision in context: what's true for Ivies not true for all. Most schools remain test free/optional and know that test scores are not great indicators of academic prowess.

Princeton Will Require Standardized Test Scores Again
Only one Ivy League institution, Columbia University, still has a test-optional policy in place. Advocates for the policies note that the large majority of universities haven’t returned to requiring test scores.

Please read this important study by Saul Geiser of UC. HS grades better predict freshman college grades than SAT. When socioeconomics added as factor in Friedman Ivy study, conclusion that SAT is better is flipped. And tests do not help the poor and minority applicants.

There are better ways to improve meaningful outcomes in K-12 schooling than top-down, test-based accountability. Doubling down on NCLB's a bad idea. Local models grounded in community and supported by the state are the way. Check out our report (with CIE).
