One wonders from whence these "news" items originated.
Independent, February 14, 1967.

Star Trek producers are looking for an attractive girl to play the regular role of an alien. Reason? More of the audience identify with Leonard Nimoy, who plays a male alien, than with earth-hero Shatner. Roddenberry hopes the men will identify with the alien lovely.

Monster Times 1, no. 26 (September 1973), 15.

At the recent ST-Equicon speculation ran the full spectrum from delighted anticipation to utter dread. A few Trekkies are so utterly horrified by the prospect of the animated series that they are already readying petitions to protest its very existence.

When Lt. Uhura appeared in the #StarTrek 1966 debut, she was boldly going where no Black woman had gone before—as a continuing network TV character in an aspirational future where skin color didn’t matter.

Note to self: Richard and Linda Thompson's "For Shame of Doing Wrong" is capo 2 with a D-C-G-D progression, and This Mortal Coil's "Song to the Siren" is capo 3 with a G-D-C-Em progression. If I remember those details, I will definitely *not* botch either song at the open mic tomorrow night.

"Mister Spock here. We're intercepting a follow-up message, sir. There are crash survivors on Talos."

The gooseneck viewers from the first pilot resemble the 1964 AT&T Picturephone 1, as encountered by the Fact Trek landing party at #SFO.

Speaking of #Batman…before it or #StarTrek, #AdamWest played co-star to #WilliamShatner in the very expen$ive TV pilot ALEXANDER THE GREAT. Pencilled into the fall 1964 schedule but dropped in favor of "The Greatest Show On Earth."

Barrymore was replaced by Robert Brown as "The Alternative Actor," so to speak.

#OTD 1966, ABC premiered #BATMAN, with a 30.7 audience share & WHAM! POW!ed ahead of both CBS's Lost In Space & NBC's The Virginian. The show was a big hit at first, but quickly burned out. By the start of it's 2nd season in September, it often placed last. It ran 2½ seasons.

Have we mentioned that Robert H. "Bob" Justman hated what we now call "small galaxy syndrome"? Well, Dorothy Fontana hated small galaxy syndrome too.

From a 1967-06-30 Fontana-penned memo about Sturgeon's "He Walked Among Us"

Star Trek's "Turnabout Intruder" was the only first-run episode to air on a Tuesday night. It was summer re-run season. Here's a peek at the Nielsens confirming this.

Journal and Courier, December 13, 1966.

"BUT MOSTLY producers saw me as an Indian type. I've played more than 100 Indians because, I guess, of my high cheek bones. The last one was on Gunsmoke just before I started Star Trek. He was a foxy, intelligent Indian, one of the best roles of the lot."

We honestly have no idea who made this, but as retro-guys, we decided it was too good not to share.

Someone told us it was seen on Threads. If you know who made it or where it was originally posted, let us know! We'd love to give credit where it's due.

Since Star Trek made its debut, fan clubs have sprung up. In his role as Spock Nimoy appeals to youngsters because he never blows his cool.

"I don't understand the reaction among young people to the role." he says. "But I'm happy that they've taken to him."

🐋🐋 Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home was released on VHS home video in the USA just 10 months after its theatrical release, whereas today it can be as little as two from theaters to home. 🏠 📼
And that $29.95 price? It'd be about $85–$90 today! 💸

A new movie, not the old TV show

HAPPINESS FOR TREKKIES

The pretty lady with the scalp problem (she's also the movie's main love interest) is Persis Khambatta. At right, a boy (Leonard Nemoy) and his mom, and one of the less friendly folk in outer space.
