Really good piece on the way Russia is methodically dispossessing Ukrainians of their homes. It's of course not happening only in Mariupol. And, in the past months, it has pushed an unclear number of Ukrainians to make the dangerous trip to the occupied territories...
🇷🇺 🇺🇦 Russian authorities are systematically seizing thousands of homes from Ukrainian residents of Mariupol, a BBC Verify investigation has found as the city marks three years of occupation.

I'm still very skeptical that Moscow has any intention to go for a ceasefire in the short term. But the one thing that could encourage Putin to agree to a ceasefire is the prospect of Ukrainian elections that would be fertile ground for destabilization.

A lot of things can happen on this road, but I think there is where we're headed, yeah.
Finishing this thought: Trump will reach some deal with Putin, giving him what he wants (most of which Russia already has territorially, plus political reforms in what’s left of Ukraine that would spell Zelensky’s end). Zelensky will refuse, and Trump will say, oh well, I tried. Peace out.
February 19, 2025 at 5:16 PM
Feels like Trump will soon outright demand Zelensky's resignation. If this happens, pressure on Zelensky will be massive: refusing to step down could be the pretext Trump is looking for to cease all support towards Ukraine. Something that might happen anyway, no matter what Zelensky does.
All masks fell off now, I guess.

Trump calls Ukrainian President Zelensky "A Dictator without Elections", says he "has done a terrible job."

Would love to see the results if "respected by other countries" and "feared by other countries" were separate answers.
If the War in Ukraine did nothing else for Russians, it convinced them that Russia is Great Again.
