Music Lover and BlueSky curious. I've been blown away by the high level of constructive engagement.

Will the last one to leave Twitter please switch off the lights. 💡

#NowPlaying Sunn 0))) - Monoliths & Dimensions (2009) Obsidian bleakness in musical form. Drone metal tones act as a granite bedrock for choral passages, guitar feedback and Orc/Uruk-hai like chuntering (well Hungarian anyway). I'm not sure if I liked this but I'm glad I've experienced it. #MusicSky

What perfect album came out the year you turned 16?

#NowPlaying @alanparsonsproject.bsky.social Alan Parsons Project - I Robot (1977) Having cut his studio teeth with Beatles and Floyd, Parsons was well versed in detailed rock. This is a proggy concept album about AI. Another artist I avoided like sprouts until I heard Be Like You on a soundtrack.

#NowPlaying Bill Nelson's Red Noise - Sound On Sound (1979) Nelson hand brake turns his career and produces a fine, frenetic, pointilistic, and definitive New Wave LP. Devo & XTC are all manifest influences. Best track, Revolt Into Style, harks back to his guitar pyrotechnic heroics #MusicSky

#NowPlaying Peter Perrett - "The Cleansing" (2024) A 20 song epic proves that there's life in the old dog and songs like Secret Taliban Wife with references to WhatsApp show he's retained his sharp wit. If it wasn't for the lost years, he'd be even more of a legend. #MusicSky

#albumoftheday Mastodon - Remission (2002) Debut outing for the US heavy metal merchants. They temper the more jazz prog noodlings with some massive riffage. Astounding drumming from the first bar. Best track - March Of The Fire Ants. #NowPlaying #MusicSky

The Wall wouldn't be in my top 10, but apart from that, this is a solid ranking.

#NowPlaying Black Pumas - Black Pumas (2019) Modern soul music with echoes of the 60's. Warm and rich analogue sound and great songwriting. Colors is the highlight track and got a lot of airplay, but the whole album is a smoker. #MusicSky

#NowPlaying #albumoftheday Bloc Party - Silent Alarm (2005) Frenetic, angular post-post-punk for the 21st C. The bleached out cover hints at more seminal post punk giants, but Bloc Party ploughs a singular, fertile furrow. The songs need an intimate club setting rather than stadia. Best Track - Luno

#NowPlaying Sisters Of Mercy - Floodland (1987) Definitive goth album that makes Bauhaus sound like Bucks Fizz. I picture a landscape of smouldering desolation as Eldritch's portentous and doom laden voice takes centre stage. The drums sound like they were recorded in a bat cave. Ace. #MusicSky

#NowPlaying Dangerdoom - The Mouse And The Mask (2005) MF DOOM and Danger Mouse and a cast of Adult Swim characters producing excellent cartoon hip hop. Genuinely hilarious. "Me what sucks - call me back, dawg" Best track - Sofa King #MusicSky

#NowPlaying Nerves - Glórach (2024) First listen to this Bandcamp only release. What sets this industrial post punk band apart is their excellent use of interstitial interludes. Together with the atmospheric songs demand that you listen to the whole and give the album your full attention. #MusicSky

#NowPlaying Steve Miller Band - Fly Like An Eagle (1976) Dreamy end of summer feel about this album. Steve retains his acid fueled late 60's trippiness but now adds slick FM radio pop rock nous to the mix. Best track - Fly Like An Eagle #MusicSky

#albumoftheday John McKay - Sixes And Sevens (2025) In the can for 45 years and finally released. Former Banshee shows what might have been. Instantly recognisable style and very strong set of songs. The last piece in the puzzle finally slotted into place. Best track - Tightrope #NowPlaying

#NowPlaying David Bowie - Black Tie, White Noise (1993) I rarely play this album, so well worth a reappraisal. The sound of Bowie pulling up his creative socks. Two veteran guitar collaborators, Nile Rogers and Mick Ronson, help lead Bowie out of the artistic wilderness. #MusicSky

#NowPlaying Nina Simone - In Concert (1980) Nina on top form rattling through jazz blues standards such as Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood and House Of The Rising Sun via Ne Me Quitte Pas. She has a freedom of expression that imprintsvher onto others songs. #MusicSky

#NowPlaying The Passage - Through The Passage (1983) New to me. A compilation of this Manchester post-punk groups singles for Cherry Red. Quirky, skittery and a few tributaries from the mainstream. This era of radical experimentation coughed up so many interesting if challenging bands. #MusicSky

#NowPlaying Peace - Kindness Is The New Rock And Roll (2018) I love this band, and this release was a great comeback after leaving Colombia. Brilliant pop rock songwriting by Harry Koisser is brought to the fore by a back to basics production. Best track - From Under Liquid Glass #MusicSky
November 14, 2025 at 4:32 PM
#NowPlaying La Sécurité - Stay Safe! (2023) My new favourite band. Edgy, tightly wound, funky, quirky post punk, like Delta 5 or maybe APB with a splash of B-52. French Canadians who recently toured the UK grappling with jet lag. Best track - Hot Topic #MusicSky
November 14, 2025 at 8:46 AM
#NowPlaying Editors - Violence (2018) Every few years Editors emerge from their shadowy bunker with another excellent and danceable post punk peach. They always deliver the goods. A really underrated band. Best track - Hallelujah (So Low) #MusicSky
November 14, 2025 at 8:42 AM
#NowPlaying Dan Mangan + Blacksmith- Club Meds (2015) will be unknown to many but this is an absolute smoker. Believe me. Calling it quietly experimental Canadian indie hardly does it justice. I've played it soooo many times in the last decade. Best track - Offred #MusicSky
November 14, 2025 at 8:37 AM
#NowPlaying Kim Deal - Nobody Loves You More (2024) Solo debut from Kim, who's cooler than the other side of the pillow. Cohesive yet incorporating a range of styles from rock outs to Nelson Riddle like orchestral. Just peachy 👌. Best track - Crystal Breath #MusicSky
November 14, 2025 at 8:33 AM
#NowPlaying James Lavelle - Global Underground - Barcelona (2002) There's something about Lavelle's track selection that seems so personal. An undeniable style. Early UNKLE collaborator, DJ Shadow gets the obligatory look in, and he finishes disc one with Ian Brown's Fear. Banger. #MusicSky
November 14, 2025 at 8:30 AM
#NowPlaying Hania Rani - Esja (2019) Delicate, minimalist piano pieces showing a touch and awareness of space. Rani channels emotion through her fingers making for a profoundly meditative experience. If you like Nils Frahm's more contemplative pieces this will be right up your street. #MusicSky
November 14, 2025 at 8:25 AM
#NowPlaying #albumoftheday Be Bop Deluxe - Axe Victim (1974) First showcase for the incredible guitar playing of Bill Nelson who broke up this Bowiesque incarnation of BBD soon after. Not a patch on later albums but has its blues rock moments. Best track - Jet Silver & The Dolls Of Venus. #MusicSky
