Behold! Peter Jackson’s LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy has been at the top of our list for years, now we’re finally going there…and back again!

Starting Monday, join us for an exploration of Middle Earth and the epic fantasy genre in our new miniseries, ONE SCENE TO RULE THEM ALL 💍
It's Nirvanna The Band The Show The Movie The Podcast Episode! This week we hop in the RV, travel back to 2008, and try to book a gig at the Rivoli!

This Labyrinth has everything: a dude with eyeballs in his hands, a sassy faun, a big ass toad, and bugs that are also fairies!

This week our guest host, good friend, and Joe Dirt expert Stephen Hilger helps us get lost in dark heart of Guillermo del Toro's PAN'S LABYRINTH!

Next week on 𝐄𝐘𝐄 𝐎𝐅 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐃𝐔𝐂𝐊:

Pan’s Labyrinth (2006)
Dir. Guillermo Del Toro

An iconic, Oscar-winning dark fairy tale about a young girl trying escaping the harsh reality of fascism through fantasy.

Hmm, nothing about that seems relevant at all.

The Eye: MF's own Nik Long joins Adam on a remote island in the Gulf of Thailand to deconstruct Sam Raimi's delightfully nasty return to horror, SEND HELP!

Also on our desert island lineup is a brand new STAR TREK show, the return of THE PITT, and the MCU's best show ever(?!), WONDERMAN

If something about the climactic battle in NARNIA feels familiar, there’s a good reason —

Peter Jackson’s own Weta Workshop built the sequence using the same CGI crowd software (Massive and Grunt) that they developed while making THE LORD OF THE RINGS

It’s the Chronic-WHAT-cles of Narnia! That’s right the Chronic-WHAT-cles of Narnia!

When choosing movies inspired by THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy to cover for our series, we knew Disney's mega-budget adaptation of C.S. Lewis's iconic children's classic was essential.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005)
Dir. Andrew Adamson

JRR Tolkien: “I despise allegory”

CS Lewis, his best friend, handing him his new book while laughing internally: “yeah it’s uhh… about a lion"

KINGDOM OF HEAVEN was an epic both in front of *and* behind the camera

Case in point – at the time of the movie’s production, the location where they shot Jerusalem was the largest 360-degree, free standing set in cinema history!

Posted in reference to nothing in particular

(This movie rocks btw)

It is a kingdom of conscience, or nothing! This week we’re going Ridley Mode™️ once again!

Join us as we embark on a journey through one of Scott’s most polarizing films – KINGDOM OF HEAVEN!

Next week on 𝐄𝐘𝐄 𝐎𝐅 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐃𝐔𝐂𝐊:

Kingdom of Heaven (2005)
Dir. Ridley Scott

You’re saying Ridley Scott fought with the studio over the theatrical cut of his film, then later released a director’s cut to much wider critical acclaim?

I’m shocked. Shocked, I tell you.

Catherine O’Hara has sadly passed away at the age of 71.

Confession time: the person posting this hadn’t seen THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN in over 20 years and always assumed Mr. Hyde was entirely CGI

Nope! Turns out it’s Jason Flemyng in a Hyde mech-suit!

This week on the Patreon, we're going to Temple. The bones are our religion, and we worship them.

Also, we’re exploring the origins of the legendary fantasy author in his extremely bizarre biopic, TOLKIEN! Did he really marry his (kind-of) step sister?!

We had no choice but to form a league with @stephenhilger.bsky.social to discuss this career killer!
This week we’re jumping from one big adaptation of British literature to another. It’s a movie about a fellowship, but this time, they call it a League. And it’s Extraordinary!! (The League, that is)

Honored that @eyeoftheduckpod.com is featured in @theguardian.com for our Tolkien series!!! Extremely proud of the whole Duck team.
Thank you to @theguardian.com for including our series on The Lord of the Rings in their snowstorm entertainment guide!

If you need something to do inside this week, well… let’s just say these three episodes will fill a LOT of time

I tried to make dinner plans with @adamvole.com while I was home in NJ, and I ended up recording an episode about “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen”

Had the best time.
Joining us for this bonus (!!) is returning champion @stephenhilger.bsky.social of the great @intothecast.bsky.social podcast! We’re piecing together one of the strangest movies out there… and still trying to figure out why Sean Connery turned down Gandalf but said yes to Quartermain.

Listen here:

BONUS!

That's right — we’re following up the greatest film trilogy of all time with the first movie that dared to ask the question “what if Mr. Hyde was the Hulk?"

This week on Patreon, we're having some (very devastating and enlightening) TRAIN DREAMS. And we're trying to make sense of the HUNT FOR GOLLUM rumors (Baby Yoda is out. Baby Smeagol is in??)

Also, GOOD FORTUNE, IF I HAD LEGS I'D KICK YOU, and more!

After hearing Billy Boyd sing at a cast party one night, writer Philippa Boyens asked him to write a song for the movie based a poem from FELLOWSHIP she gave him

After only 1-2 days to prepare, Boyd sang the song on set, and it brought the crew to tears
