My Commision sheet! Going to put it on BlueSky too :>
I like your funny words magic man.

Neovocabularians, are like, neologismians, but in bigger scale, no?

I've made and uploaded a twitter style emoji for Yugra onto wikimedia, feel free to use it! I may be making one for unicode flags as well today, I'll see how hard it is haha

I've been reading the world creation myth of Mansi, and I love the word usages, very unusual, never seen combinations haha

I sent a split request to the LCA about Khanty, and got a response last night. I made a response today, with a lot of publications showcasing the importance in organising and representing these languages as separate.

Do they write in the Komi language sometimes? Or is it mostly in Russian? >.>

Would be cool if we could make an "ad" with them about Lingonaut, maybe we could even have a Komi course if someone joins us.

Oh no kecske is goat, I just not included it here cause it's obvious haha

These words are otherwise unknown of origin >.>
Tbh, proto-uralic reconstruction of maa is *mexe (i can't type the accute accent e)
January 20, 2026 at 11:01 AM
So I read up on it more, and it is apperantly related with meder and meddő.

mét comes from the original word of kecskemed -> med which means "periodical waterditch" (Kiss 1980)
However he doesn't say what it comes from... 🤔
January 20, 2026 at 10:54 AM
For a while I thought that the city named Kecskemét had "mét" in it as the old relictum of the cognate of maa, but alas that is not true 😔

I always wondered how Hungarian doesn't have a cognate with ма̄.

Northern Mansi wird fir mammoth is ма̄хар, wonder when did they change the word to be this instead of "ма̄ӈа̄ньт" if this was even how it was written.

I had an idea on making this booklet in all the Uralic languages that have a translation of the UDHR.
If anyone knows where I could find them, outside of Hungarian, Finnish and Estonia, I'd be very happy if they could lend me a hand in collecting them!
I have made a mockup of the mansi translation of The Universal Declaration of Human Rights in a booklet format. Ofc wrote on it that it hasn't been reviewed by the UN on an official case.

Souls can also materialize in different ways: as a visible shadow, a breath of air, a reflection in water, or even a bird. After death, some souls go to the realm of the dead, while others remain on earth for a certain period of time, where they can harm the bereaved.

Mervi de Heer @mervideheer.bsky.social & Luke Maurits analyse stability of meanings in basic vocabulary lists of Uralic languages by calculating a borrowing probability for each meaning and clustering them into groups of more borrowable and less borrowable meanings.
