Tonight I made a vegetable pot pie for dinner and made way too much béchamel for the filling. Spouse’s suggestion: let’s just warm the leftover sauce and dip bread in it like fondue.

Today I organized my books so instead of my nightstand holding three piles of books it only has one and I feel like I deserve a prize or a parade or something.

ER doc here! This is a lie. Wait times are up because the American healthcare system is an unsustainable business model and a for-profit national healthcare system just doesn’t work. These problems will continue to get worse until we change that system. It literally has nothing to do with immigrants
Vance: "If you're an American citizen & you've been to the hospital in the last few years, you've probably noticed wait times are especially large & very often somebody who's there in the ER is an illegal alien. Why do those people get healthcare benefits at hospitals paid for by American citizens?"

My (nonlawyer) partner just asked me why an em dash is called that and I told him so with reluctance I must now admit that law review has come in useful in real life on at least one occasion.

Can we all just agree that Belly Conklin has major issues with the rules of international travel? #tsitp

If you need a reminder that almost every aspect of the US legal system is designed to reinforce racist hierarchies, look no further than the Bluebook, which went through 21 editions before including for the first time a rule with guidelines for citing sources produced by Tribal Nations.

Just finished Ali Hazelwood’s Olympic diver contemporary romance Deep End. 10s across the board, zero notes, chef’s kiss. #romancelandia

I think maybe I’ve only read Bombshell and I don’t remember it very well. But I’ve heard good things about her so perhaps I should revisit her next! Any suggestions where to start?

Yes! I loved the Wedgeford Trials series and I’m reading the Worth Saga now! I can’t get her books as audiobooks from my library though so I’m reading hers a bit more slowly as paperbacks. (I listen to audiobooks on my commute but reading a paperback while driving is frowned upon.)

The silly agreement to live apart after they make an heir which NEITHER OF THEM WANTS TO DO but they agreed to because THEY ARE AFRAID THE OTHER WON'T WANT THEM which is ridiculous because THEY ARE ALREADY IN LOVE WITH EACH OTHER. God I love it so much.

After exhausting the histrom catalogues of Julie Ann Long, Lisa Kleypas, and Tessa Dare, I tried out Megan Frampton (A Wicked Bargain for the Duke, recommended by @bandherbooks.bsky.social and @melonreads.bsky.social) and holy hell she does not disappoint. 🔥😍🔥

So good! Also if you like Lisa Kleypas, Tessa Dare, and Courtney Milan, you might also like Julie Ann Long's historical romances. I plowed through her Pennyroyal Green series and Palace of Rogues series!

Just devoured the first 7 books in the Palace of Rogues and my library hold for the final book has a 12 week wait. So just a protip you might want to request the last book at the same time as the first when you're ready for Palace of Rogues because you will not want to put them down!

The court "does irrevocable damage to the Equal Protection Clause and invites legislatures to engage in discrimination by hiding blatant sex classifications in plain sight. It also authorizes, without second thought, untold harm to transgender children and the parents and families who love them."

It's not a rom com! There wasn't really enough chemistry and the romance didn't feel central like it should in a true genre romance. But it's a solid drama and commentary on love and dating, good set up, well executed. Pedro Pascal was flawless.

Earlier this spring I read The Devil Comes Courting and now I’ve just finished Once Upon a Marquess so I guess here I go ordering the entirety of the Worth Saga. @courtneymilan.com knows how to write a strong complex heroine and a hero who appreciates that he needs to work to earn her partnership.

For a while the bread making ritual was so satisfying, seeing my father-in-law’s eyes light up with excitement at the smell of freshly baked bread or cinnamon rolls. Toward the end it became harder to watch his appetite dwindle as he turned away even his favorite foods.

Over two months ago my partner and I came to Idaho to stay with his parents while his dad was in hospice. We brought 50 lbs of flour with us. We have used nearly all the flour.
