Reviewer#1 nails it - there is NO such thing as an "asymmetric compact hexagonal packing" and it is IMPOSSIBLE to predict iridescent colors without the barbule cortex thickness that usually never gets preserved. This is just sophistry. Thanks @elife.bsky.social

🥱We all know why this made it into the tabloid...Nice artist impression! 15 years of fundamentally flawed research in making unfounded inferences from impressions of melanosomes. Small mercy they are not attributing iridescence to these "dinosaur-era" critters YET😆

Mesozoic mammaliaforms illuminate the origins of pelage coloration
Pelage coloration, which serves numerous functions, is crucial to the evolution of behavior, physiology, and habitat preferences of mammals. However, little is known about the coloration of Mesozoic m...

Do you love bugs? Have you ever wondered what makes insects so colorful or how insects produce iridescence in their scales? Do you have a Masters degree?

If yes 😁, we are offering a fully-funded PhD position at IRBI (CNRS/UTours). Come join us!! Applications due 11 April 2025!
