The importance of #hyperlocal reporting

“We wanted to get to the detention centers so that we could minister to people there. As we started to walk, they pushed us, they shoved us. They grabbed onto us… They took about 15 clergy.”
— Rev. Beth Johnson, Minister of the Unitarian Church of Hinsdale
As a Mexican-American from the Chicago area, Trump's "Operation Midway Blitz" has been a total nightmare.

The racism, violence, and violation of rights by the Trump administration has obvious ties to Neo-Nazism, and cannot be ignored. So I wrote this article, and I brought receipts.

Her work was a reminder that memory is not passive. It’s an active practice of tending to the filaments she described—those blazing threads that glow warm with the people who shaped us. To tend them is to extend them. To extend them is to refuse the isolation the system relies on.

Alice Wong taught us that disabled people don’t just leave memories behind—they leave infrastructure. Lineages of care. Methods of collectivity, survival. She named the connective tissue that holds our communities together, even across death, even across the losses that come too fast and too often.

Please stop using language that suggests that people with criminal records are appropriate targets for this administration's violence. One in three adults has a criminal record. Stop playing sacrifice games with fascists. Stop surrendering entire categories of people in your own mind.
