I'm doing some writing on Socrates, who had a "little daimon" (daimonion), and for background I went back and looked at how Homer and Hesiod used the term. I'm not expert in this area, but here's a summary of what I saw....
![Homer and Hesiod were the most famous poets in the ancient Greek-speaking world. They're thought to have lived sometime in the 9th and 8th centuries BCE.' And a daimon for them was a more-than-human force which could affect a person's life-for better or for worse. In their time many Greeks suspected that whenever something strange or uncanny happened, a daimon was likely to be involved. The spirits of deceased heroes were understood to be capable of coming back as daimons that could influence, assist, or thwart people. And, when an individual experienced particularly good luck in their life, often it was thought that he or she was "eudaimon" — which meant they had a good daimon.
In the Iliad and the Odyssey, the works attributed to Homer, the word
"daimon" shows up only a few times. And it appears to be more or less interchangeable with the word "theos," which meant "a god." The Olympian deities sometimes get called daimons, as in:
Soaring home to Olympus, [Athena] rejoined the gods [daimonas]

The first time "eudaimon" shows up in Greek literature is in the last lines of Hesiod's poem, Works and Days. Works and Days was a kind of farmer's almanac and a source of life advice. Its last lines go like this:
That person is fortunate [eudaimon] and blessed who,
knowing all these
matters, goes on with their work, innocent toward the immortals,
watching all the bird signs, and keeping clear
of transgression.4

Might it be the case that the greatest lesson which #philosophers of #Antiquity—above all #Plotinus— have to teach us is that #philosophy is not the complicated, pretentious, & artificial construction of a learned system of discourse, but the transformation of perception & of life.

Field of vision implies something outside of "you" but there's no such thing. Your field of vision is really your expansiveness, your field of being. The eye is merely an aperture; your luminosity flows both directions through it. Vision isn't confined to biology: it is light, pervading everywhere.
