As I was finishing up The Fates of the Princes of Dyfed the other night, my cat Jack climbed inside it and started making biscuits. That thing's 112 years old, I nearly had a heart attack!
Here he is enjoying a much cheaper book much more responsibly, though. :)

I've been hunting down records of earlier transgender internet communities to build an oral history for an article. And found one of the things I was looking for.

I know it's literally a retelling of ancient Welsh legends, but The Fates of the Princes of Dyfed nails the numinous and ethereal tone of myth better than any other modern prose work I've read. Le Guin was right, Cenydd Morus is an all-timer stylist.

A screenshot of Head Over Heels on Spectrum, above some text reading: The charming aesthetic and lower difficulty level were not the only way they set out to make an inclusive game, as Drummond later explained. “The characters were never intended to be male or female; as a politically aware youngster, I was nervous of appearing sexist, racist and brutalist.” The game’s manual has a section about the game’s story which manages to avoid using any gendered pronouns… before its character glossary goes right ahead and uses “his” for both Head and Heels. [The screenshot shows Head (a cute dog-like character) standing on top of Heels (a different cute dog-like character) next to some controls for a robot. The robot looks somewhat like Prince Charles's head stuck on a dalek's base.]

It totally makes sense, the "bulletin board" part shows up in the names of a number of early web forum systems. So the difference between a "bulletin board" and a "BBS" isn't really super clear if you didn't personally use the latter

I forgot to announce on here that I streamed today. My first stream of the year which was for Kirby's Dream Land and Adventure is over, I have to be transparent about the mistakes I have made during these playthroughs. I deeply apologize to the families of these poor Waddle Dee.
