26% of inequality of opportunity in the UK is determined by factors beyond the individual's control, just below the OECD average of 28% according to the latest OECD report. Check out my blog for the Sutton Trust below ⤵️
🗨️ "According to these findings, opportunity in England is determined by inherited circumstances more so than compared to Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland."

What does the OECD's new measure of inequality say about the state of opportunity in the UK? ⤵️

Happy GCSE, Level 1 & 2 Results Day! Congrats to everyone receiving their results today 👏 We've been diving into the stats this morning, see below-
REGIONAL GAPS 🔎

Unlike at A Levels, regional gaps are largely unchanged since last year, including the performance of the region with the highest proportion of top grades (London) and the lowest (North East).

However, gaps since 2019 have widened significantly.

Research released today by The Sutton Trust shows stark inequalities in opportunity across constituencies.

Saddened to see how much young people's opportunities depend on where they grew up.

The next step is to change this.

New research out today from The Sutton Trust, find the key findings and recommendations below. It's time to get serious about widening participation in medical schools. 👇
🚨 NEW: Only a fraction of medical students come from working class backgrounds, despite recent efforts to widen access.

Our new research finds persistent issues with access to careers in medicine, as working-class people remain hugely underrepresented in the profession 🧵⬇️
