Yes, the Dems gave in but they’re dealing with psychos. If you want to blame anyone, blame any four Republicans in either chamber who won’t switch parties and end this catastrophe. They are telling you they know the midterms will not matter.

Could Draft Kings be reached for comment?
Breaking news per Jeff Passan: “Cleveland Guardians pitchers Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz have been indicted by prosecutors in Brooklyn on a host of charges related to a scheme to rig bets on pitches thrown in MLB games. Ortiz was arrested in Boston earlier today. Clase is not currently in custody”

How can anyone see what the GOP is doing and not believe that their goal is to crash the US economy?

NB: The shut down would have never happened if the GOP had agreed to make insurance at the ACA marketplaces slightly more affordable by not letting existing subsidies run out. That's it.
Sean Duffy: "We have a number of people who want to get home for the holidays, they want to see their family. Listen, many of them are not going to be able to get on an airplane."

If OpenAI were to fall on hard financial times now, who exactly would be hurt? In other words, is it possible for OpenAI to figure its own shit out now (albeit painfully for some) before it becomes a too-big-to-fail vampire squid burdening the US economy? I think we're at a crossroads.

The Dems have offered a one-year extension of the subsidies that make health insurance at the ACA exchanges less expensive. That's down from infinity to one and if the GOP doesn't take that deal, it'll be because they want the gov't shut down. The Dems need to make everyone understand that.

re: the Douthat column. It's 3 people with good vocabularies & clear agendas who know a little about a lot of things (lots of those things are wrong) & who dissemble their way through a conversation that requires so much fact checking that it’s not worth anyone’s time. It's a slow moving Gish gallop

I've seen a lot of fat-shaming but this is w/o doubt the most egregious example of it ever.

And I'll take this opportunity to say the same of Reagan (and Nixon, too, but Reagan - always Reagan) of cursed memory, may he rot in hell.

On the 3rd call, the secretary says, “Why do you keep calling? I told you. The maestro has died!” He replies, “I know. I just like hearing it”

You would think a news media that reflects the interests of a majority of people would be talking about this like it’s a major news trend. But our news media does not reflect the interests of a majority so it doesn’t.

Trust me - this game is exciting but it's not the most exciting game ever. It's just that that announcers are insane. Play at the plate. Ball caught in centerfield. That stuff happens in baseball.

Oooh - I've been really good at tuning out the announcers but one of them just mentioned Christy Matthewson and that broke through the noise.

Here we go. This is exactly what they did to food stamps - baseless, racist attacks - and they won. We can not let them do the same to SNAP. The economy and reality are on our side. We just need to speak up.
ROB SCHMITT: People are using SNAP benefits to get their nails done, to get their weaves and their hair. This is a really ugly program.

SEN. RON JOHNSON: That program needs to be dramatically reformed.
