January was hectic in many RapidKL bus service amendments and cuts, so here's a thread on all of the changes compiled

If it matters to anyone who’s getting into the game of bus spotting: RapidKL has a website which you can see the exact location of buses without using the PULSE app, with TXT Bus #SongOfMyStars wrapped on bus WVC2558 (which coincidentally was in front of me on my bus ride today)

Saw the potential for a divine shot when the Loke stood right in front of Animate Cafe

Transport Minister Anthony Loke visited Lalaport Transportation Hub today and spoke about consolidating coach buses pickups in city into a site with better facilities connected with rail

Buses will remain at existing sites until licensing by LPTA/APAD of LTH is complete

The end game's next phase starts with end of promo period for Rapid On-Demand in KL: fare to increase to 2 MYR per ride

MY50, City, Tourist, and Family passes will no longer cover DRT rides, shafting those affected by the bus cuts to fork out even more for public transport

Day 1 of the bus cuts and RapidKL customer support seems to be unaware of it and still suggesting bus routes that no longer exists

Still thinking about that time when a RapidKL bus broke down and a Kajang SmartSelangor bus dressed as a makeshift maintenance vehicle arrived to diagnose the bus only to be towed away by an MRTCorp bus recovery vehicle

Khazanah Research Institute recently published reports on public transport in Kuala Lumpur and among them, measuring bus reliability using public live-time GPS data for RapidKL buses and proved what we knew all along - that they have a long way to go to be reliable for the masses

The end game with the incessant push for DRT services by RapidKL has been revealed: multiple bus routes in Kepong, Sri Kembangan, and Putrajaya to be terminated in less than a week’s notice, with no telling of matching the level of reliability or accessibility previously offered

For a massive car-free event at a key tourist attraction, public transport at Bukit Bintang was disappointing in how there’s:
- no adjusted frequency for MRT and monorail to run more trains
- no physical info about bus diversions, made worse with misleading bus ETA info present
January 6, 2026 at 6:06 AM
Bukit Bintang had finally been closed off to cars during the new years and the parade last night and the contrast is amazing to see with the potential of a Bukit Bintang free from large single-occupant metal boxes:

Worth mentioning to see the travel pass adjustments in the context where LRT3 will be opening soon, which will expand the coverage of travel passes (eg day pass) significantly

Instead, the adjustments should kick after the opening of LRT3, rather than fixing it on Jan 1

After the frenzy surrounding the RapidKL travel pass changes, I made a table to quickly compare the changes from 1 January 2026 onwards

Most notable changes includes the introduction of a new monthly pass for foreigners and making the Student Concession Pass Malaysian-only:

If you have money to throw around with friends - why not blow it all on a Junk tour around the Victoria Harbour?

It has occurred to me that somehow good pedestrian wayfinding seems to look too much of the same, as if they had copy Legible London's wayfinding totems and pasted them all around the world, including Hong Kong:

Am a big fan of all things analog so I was eclectic to see some Kowloon Motor Bus fleets still sporting the analog flip-dot electronic display signs by Hanover:

Penang’s crosswalk buttons are cool but have you heard those that can beep as well in Hong Kong?

Even in an environment as hectic and chaotic as the 4-line transfer station of Admiralty has cafe music set as its background ambiance audio, which is an interesting music choice

Chanced upon Sung Wong Toi station and I was treated to a mini museum within the concourse featuring a wall displaying archaeological discoveries during the station's construction dating back to the Song Dynasty, nearly 800 years ago

While Malaysians are foaming over the app-ification of our emergency services, take a gander on Hong Kong’s parking meters, featuring payments by Octopus stored-value card, bank cards and QR payments, allowing you to pay for parking without touching a phone or an app:
November 20, 2025 at 2:35 AM
A neat little feature that the Octopus cards have is the ability to display either English or Chinese for fare card reader displays, as shown with two cards coded respectively and used one after another:

Thoroughly enjoyed my experience at the Rail Voyage exhibition at Hung Hom, which showcased some of MTR and KCR's legacy rolling stock and equipment for all to enjoy and revisit

A free experience, booking required - here's some highlights to look out for in a short thread:

Have to give to Hong Kong because they have probably Asia's best airport night bus network that will bring you everywhere in HK for the price less than ride hailing back in KL

A late night bus journey out of Hong Kong airport is easy with many guides & maps…

I know the news cycle has moved on, but since KL’s mayor is appointed rather than elected (as it should), the fact that friends and family - who don’t even know their own local mayors - had been asking me about it shows a rare level of public interest in Malaysian local politics
