Last night, we were one of the first outlets to report the ADULT ban on gender affirming care for Medicaid recipients who depend on it to access it.

This morning, that bill passed 215-214-1.

It now goes to the senate.

It's a bleak day for transgender Americans.
1. Terrifying news for transgender people across the United States. In a late night development, the House Spending Bill was amended to ban transgender coverage for transgender ADULTS on medicaid!

A manager's amendment removed the words "for minors."

The Montana Bathroom ban is signed into law.

Gianforte thanked the Alliance Defending Freedom and Riley Gaines in his address.

This makes it against the law for trans people to use the bathroom in the airport, parks, the capitol building, and more.

It also impacts me and my wife Zooey personally.

Some people have suggested that they exclude transgender people from their studies. Flatt said excluding people of all genders is not pro-science. “I refuse to do that,” they said. “The administration is saying that it needs to be for all Americans. They are Americans.”
What happens to health research when 'women' is a banned word?
Trump's federal funding cuts are shutting down studies on Alzheimer’s care, uterine fibroids and pregnancy risks — all because they focus on gender.

As a transgender person with a family history of Alzheimer's, it's a slap in the face to be told our lab's research on brain health and caregiving is "unscientific" and does "nothing to enhance the health of many Americans" -- just because it includes transgender people. But we won’t be silenced.

And then there were none…

My advisor just lost their last remaining federal research grant. All were cancelled for being inclusive of #trans and #nonbinary people. People like us.

These grants supported critical research into #LGBTQIA aging, dementia, and caregiving—and funded a staff of 7.
All of my federal funding has now been stripped away from me. I went from a nearly $5 million federally supported portfolio to nothing.

Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA) raised concerns about research grants terminated for including transgender people -- including ones that fund our Rainbows of Aging team at the UNLV School of Public Health -- during a confirmation hearing for NIH director nominee Dr. Jayanta Bhattacharya.

Our team just had an NIH grant terminated. The reason?

“Transgender issues: Research programs based on gender identity are often unscientific,
have little identifiable return on investment, and do nothing to enhance the health of many
Americans….”

My advisor/our research team just had a $1.4 million, 4-year DOD grant revoked because the study includes LGBTQ+ veterans. Unless something changes soon, I have to assume our NIH funding is on the chopping block too. Our research is about dementia and caregiving.
