My kid and I were trying to understand why AI-generated media appeals to anyone and I wonder if it has to do with a lack of empathy. If other people and their experiences are meaningless to you, it doesn’t matter whether something comes from a human or is generated by an algorithm.

Drew a picture of my 9yo daughter (because she asked me to!) and this was her response. I am devastated.

I am using her drawing of me as my portrait on this app!

Hi, I am looking for a critique partner for my ancient history/mythology-inspired fantasy novel. It’s about a woman who discovers her missing husband is alive and imprisoned in an underground cave system, and sets out to rescue him. Would love to work with another fantasy author.

At the same time I am pleased and proud to look at my drawing and I despair at how far I have to go as an artist before I can actually make the picture on the page match the vision I wish I could create. I do really like her jacket, though.

FRIEREN x HUNDRED THOUSAND KINGDOMS

When Kasetris discovers her husband is alive, she leaves her life as a pampered prisoner in the Court of Gods to rescue him from an underground labyrinth. But freeing him means rekindling a rebellion—and they already lost the first round.

I’ve been drawing again! Here is Kasetris, the MC of my current WIP. I know I’ve got room for improvement, both as an artist and as a user of Clip Studio Paint, but I don’t hate it.

My kid used my sewing scissors to cut wrapping paper and I am this close to picking him up early from the birthday party and dragging him out by the ear.

My 14yo just told me, “I like building Gundams. That makes me a Zeta Male.”

What about those of us who can’t be bothered to read an article or watch a video but want to have everything spoken aloud to us in podcast format while multitasking? Is it because I’m an Xennial?
The real generational divide is people who refuse to watch a video if it could be an article versus people who refuse to read an article if it could be a video

I tried to crochet some cat beds to donate to a shelter. I made 3 but my cats have decided I am not allowed to donate this one…

Okay, So Pope Leo XIV *has to* walk out to Sirius by the Alan Parsons Project on his first visit to the States. Right? THIS MUST HAPPEN RIGHT??

The implication is that “YOUR”kids will have to make do with less, right? “My” kids will still get everything their hearts desire. “YOUR” kids will probably be too busy working in the factories to have time for dolls, anyway.
Trump on China: "They made a trillion dollars with Biden selling us stuff. Much of it we don't need. Somebody said, 'oh, the shelves are gonna be open.' Well, maybe the children will have two dolls instead of 30 dolls, and maybe the two dolls will cost a couple of bucks more."

I keep thinking of my grandfather’s little sister. In 1926, when my grandfather was 8, his 2 year old sister Ruth died. According to her death certificate, the cause of death was “infectious diarrhea.” My grandfather remembered them carrying her out of the house in a suitcase.
i don't think most people today have any real idea what things like child mortality pre-vaccines really meant.

i have friends who have lost two children. they have been permanently altered by that experience.

that was basically everyone until 100 years ago.

So proud of this kid! I’m still working on my sign but she’s had this ready for a while.

It’s just one in a pile of a million terrible things, but this one is personal. My 14yo kid is getting ready to go to the state NHD competition. But I’m sure his exhibit about the impact of the Castle Bravo nuclear testing on the Marshall Islanders is history the administration wants forgotten.
I just got confirmation that National History Day, a program that does more to ignite K-12 students' love of history, learning, and yes, even the United States than anything else I've ever seen, had all its funding cut yesterday by the DOGE-axe at the NEH - including for this year's ongoing contest.

This article is dominating my thoughts this morning. I don’t know what to do when there are so many people who can’t be reached. We still share our society with them, even if we don’t seem to live in the same reality.
Not happy about it, but I called it: the Wisconsin guy whose wife got scooped by ICE on their honeymoon still doesn't regret voting for Trump.

MAGA is a cult and what we know is the worse it gets, the more cult members double down.

"I don't regret the vote": Why most Trump voters stand by him, even as he ruins their live
It's not totally hopeless: Some swing voters who backed Trump may learn their lesson

Picture Elon Musk gleefully swinging his chainsaw at CPAC. Next consider the legions of laid-off government workers whose contributions he neither knows nor cares about. Then think of the children (and parents) dying for lack of the food and medicine USAID once provided. Are you sickened yet? I am.
