“It shows us there is another way. And this is why artists are so often the first people to be targeted by authoritarian figures, those intent on keeping a tight lid on ideas, on different opinions, on language. Artistic expression is the practice of freedom.”

Renee Nicole Good leveraged her white privilege in defense of the most vulnerable in her community. She was cowardly murdered by a masked man who did not identify himself.
Her resistance was peaceful. The message is unmistakable: this was meant as a warning to all, including white women.

To paraphrase Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Americans will soon understand that hate is too great a burden to bear.

Today, some 117 million people have been forced to flee their homes (…) The tools to help them survive, rebuild and eventually return home already exist. But they require time, cooperation, trust and a desire to invest in peace rather than war.

It always has been.

Cases such as this one, which echo that of Gisèlle Pellicot, are symptomatic of a widespread problem in Europe that is not discussed enough: rape culture is normalised.

Andrew Wakefield, a British doctor, claimed (wrongly) in 1998 that the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine was a cause of autism. This led to years of wasted research trying to find a link that did not exist.

Photographing the absence: how to portray the emptiness created after disappearance in Mexico?
The work of Martell and Gómez Lucini underscores the importance of remembering those who have been lost, advocating for the right of the disappeared to be searched for, cared for, and recognized. T...
