I firmly believe the best way to design anything is to come up with the most unhinged version of it possible, THEN sand it back town into something reasonable
The sanding is inevitable, so If you try to come up with something reasonable first you'll just sand it down to a nub

I think there are some characters that work way better as blank slate player surrogates than trying to turn them into actual characters
But at the same time that feels incompatible with modern franchise games that have to overexplain their plot, characters, and world with cutscenes

I kinda miss passwords in games
Obv dedicated save files are better in almost every way, but it's cool having a physical way to store game data that you can share and copy freely
