Hi everyone, I’m Taylor!

I’m a philosophy PhD candidate currently working on Deleuze and Guattari’s views on language. My main area of interest is Continental philosophy, particularly Continental aesthetics and philosophy of language. I also enjoy most history of philosophy topics.

There are many funny things about the Roko's Basilisk wikipedia page, but to me the funniest thing is this completely gratuitous drawing of a basilisk that looks like it was done by a teenager.

I feel like I'm just not made for short-form social media anymore. I want exclusively long-form essays and private correspondence.

I logged on here and had 15 notifications because one person followed me and liked a lot of my posts. How do large accounts deal with this??

I have a big urge to reread Plato's Phaedrus. I read it in high school. It was the first Platonic dialogue I really enjoyed. Though that makes me a bit biased, I think it contains in nuce all that is significant in Plato.

When I was a kid my dad showed me Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman and I still regularly think of this final line of the first episode. The delivery, the orchestra swell, it's perfect.

When teaching post-structuralism to undergrads, profs will often use the example of 'looking up a word in a dictionary only to find other words' to get at the "excess of signifier" idea. Does anyone know where this example comes from?

I spent this morning writing about Guattari and asignifying semiotics. He's a terrible writer, just awful to read, but when you translate what he's saying into normal human language it's actually pretty interesting.

I love when Continental philosophers are like “we have not yet begun to understand [philosopher].” We do not yet understand Spinoza. We do not yet understand Nietzsche. No idea what it means but it gets me going.
