One unfortuante thing about having a Steam page up is that evey time I make a subtle change to the game I need to update the screenshots of those features on the Steam page.

It feels magical to see my game on #SteamDeck like this, even if it is just for testing.

I made a pretty big change to how chocie events work in FoxHaunt.

I felt like locking choices was too limiting, so I changed it to make all choices always be available. But balance is kept by giving bonuses to choices for certain conditions.

One of the key mechanics of FoxHaunt is that you can fight the final boss at basically any time.

I think this idea was partially inspired by Chrono Trigger and also partially inspired by ZHP.

While drawing the planets for #FoxHaunt I found out that people often see a heart-like shape on #pluto. After that I decided to emphasize that heart shape in my drawing of it.

It also inspired the name of the player's default piece of equipment.

In earlier designs of #FoxHaunt I had the stats in a menu. After some playtesting I realised that it was important for the player to know their stats, so I decided to make them always be visible, to help the player make decisions.

For a while I've been wondering if it was a good idea to use the spelling "defence" vs "defense".
In the end I just decided to replace the word with "Protection" which doesn't have regional spelling variants (that I know of)

I finally added health bars to the battle scene in #FoxHaunt.

I just ordered a small number of 50mmx30mm dual-layer acrylic blocks. Hopefully they will look good.

I'm not fully sure what I will do with them yet. I'll keep a couple, most will probably be given to friends, but maybe I could do a giveaway for some.

When designing the characters for FoxHaunt tried to make the Celestial Fox look smug, because she knows that she is more powerful than you.

The goal of #FoxHaunt is to defeat the Celestial Fox, who is the strongest fox spirit.
You can challenge her at any time, but you will need to gain power before you can stand a chance.

One pattern I like to use in #GodotEngine is to await results of popup UIs such as confirm dialogs and menus.

Maybe wanting to use await like this has rubbed of on me from spending such a long time working as a web developer.

The main character of FoxHaunt is the "Forgotten Fox".

Every character in the game is based around a keyword and a related theme. Forgotten Fox's keyword is "outsider", and I gave her a chuunibyou theme.

I put a tiny detail into the Charming Fox which is probably too small to see in the actual game.
The white highlights on her eyes are heart shaped.

The hardest part of making the game is balancing all of the rewards and stats. I've had to do it multiple times throughout the development process as I've made design changes to the game 😭.

Random trivia:
Originally the theme of the game was going to be a Fox spirit searching for and fighting Wolf spirits. But after I thought of the name #FoxHaunt I thought that it made more sense for the enemies to be foxes too.

Of course many things have changed since then too.
