Tom Severin! He sucks, we love him. In this week's episode, Beth and Emma try to figure out just how Lisa Kleypas pulls off making us love a book with a landlord hero. The answer involves extended set-pieces, deft pacing and a third act kidnapping, all Kleypas hallmarks.

I went to my grad school orientation tonight and when prompted to share our names and "something about ourselves," I was the only person to say literally anything. 14/15 people passed!

Also the fact that Cherelle Parker is not out front and center doing everything in her power to protest the SEPTA cuts basically invalidates the entire point of having a mayor. I understand the direct impact she can have is limited but she should still be incessantly denouncing it.

I understand frustration with the implementation, but Georgia made everyone get RealID starting in 2012 and the state is almost 100% compliant by now.

Don Quixote is a romance is one way and becoming obsessed with Don Quixote is a romance in another. And beating your head against wall because you can't process foreign vowel sounds in also a romance.

since I am childless, the main way I know I am turning into my mom is how often I explain the plot of Pierre Menard, Author of the Quixote to people.

I'm updating this from an old project and it is taking forever because for each part I end up reading a bunch of new to me Victorian novels. but the next part is about Patricia Gaffney and Lisa Kleypas and maybe a new to me Laura Kinsale.
I am still writing about the theory that marital rape exemptions are the reason that bodice rippers were popular in the 1970s (I think this relies on a deep misunderstanding of how rape was talked about pre-1972 and how the law works).
