Fabulous new object of wonder installed at the Tower of London this week - the 1100s Valasse cross, once owned by Empress Matilda - it is just stunning.

Portal to the past. These are Alderman Stairs, also known as Alderman Parsons Stairs or Lady Parsons Stairs, & are on John Rocque’s map of 1745. Soaked in age & ancient stories of life on the Thames in London. The number of deaths reported here is grim, mostly people falling from vessels & drowning.

Loved everything about Tirzah Garwood @dulwichgallery.bsky.social - paintings, prints, textiles, marbled paper but best of all - her box-framed miniature houses - just a pure delight

It's Monday. You're dragging yourself through the world, one cup of coffee at a time. Can nothing liven up this day?

How 'bout a thread of eel ships on maps? These maps are what got me into eels in the first place! 🧪🗃️

"Cool!" you say. "But wait...what's an eel ship?"

Well...

Kensington Palace's excellent staircase 💖

The Palace is closed to visitors for the next few weeks to deinstall - leaving spaces majestically clear.

I found this today - me as a baby museum curator in 1999 🤩

I thought no images of early me at work existed (this was pre mobile cameras everywhere) but here I am, dusting the folk art foot warmer at Haslemere Museum as if I know Instagram is just around the corner...
