Portal to the past. These are Alderman Stairs, also known as Alderman Parsons Stairs or Lady Parsons Stairs, & are on John Rocque’s map of 1745. Soaked in age & ancient stories of life on the Thames in London. The number of deaths reported here is grim, mostly people falling from vessels & drowning.

I found this today - me as a baby museum curator in 1999 🤩
I thought no images of early me at work existed (this was pre mobile cameras everywhere) but here I am, dusting the folk art foot warmer at Haslemere Museum as if I know Instagram is just around the corner...
