A Met Office and Met Eireann 'red' warning for wind tomorrow for Ireland and parts of Scotland due to #StormEowyn. Very windy everywhere over the UK at times.

Might be a working from home day if you can. A very low central pressure below 940mb is possible.

Surf breaks co-occur with carbon dense ecosystems that store ~88.3 million tonnes of carbon. If disturbed, large amounts of CO2 would be released into the atmosphere.

A definite incentive for the surf industry to create a symbiosis between surfing infrastructure and the local biodiversity.
Co‐occurrence of surf breaks and carbon‐dense ecosystems suggests opportunities for coastal conservation
We examine the intersection of global surf breaks, Key Biodiversity Areas, protected areas, and carbon dense ecosystems to identify priority areas for conservation. We find roughly 90 million tonnes ...

Super interesting paper by @climatedann.bsky.social discussing the need for climate and health studies to expand their focus to encompass the longer term health impacts of climate change.

Why we still don’t know the mounting health risks of climate change
Persistent exposure to heatwaves, droughts, wildfires and more will take a toll on people’s bodies. We must learn how this will manifest.

The Wave in Bristol is a great example of how artificial wave pools can be powered with 100% renewables ✨

Their waves are powered by their 3-megawatt solar farm 🌞 interested to see how the other wave pools will follow
Surfing in the Desert Comes With a Climate Cost
As artificial wave pools proliferate around the world, surf park developers aim to go green to counter criticism over energy and water use.

Summer UK temperatures have warmed faster than global average temperature.

But the very hottest days have warmed 4x faster than the global average, especially in south-east England.

Global warming is not "just" 1°C or 2°C. The effects of climate change are non-linear, especially for extremes.
