I’m new here and glad to join you in this space. My name is Emily (they/them) & I’m a Louisiana Creole person who was raised in S. Louisiana. I’m queer and nonbinary.

I’m a poet! I received an MFA in poetry from UKY and I’m currently an English PhD candidate at USM in Hattiesburg, MS.
Today I said “you remember what it was like after 9/11” in class because we were talking about TSA. Then I realized: “Oh, haha no. None of y’all were born yet!”

every few years it's revealed that the NYT was sitting on information about some horrific thing that public knowledge of would have changed the country's course and for some reason a ton of people still give them money. you can play those games on other sites

You talk about parents revealing their lore when you’re older…but I just found I have more aunts and uncles over breakfast.

I’m quoted here, “Exploring wants and fears, turning a light on dark places, and exposing inner thoughts will emotionally resonate…Work that emotionally resonates is complex, sincere, and self-assured. The work that stands out in the queue … is wholly itself: brave, authentic, and unshrinking.”

...and less than 24 hours later Condé Nast has fired Lex and the rest of the Teen Vogue political desk, even as stories like this were bringing huge numbers of readers to the site
dissatisfied by the New York Times coverage of Zohran Mamdani?

great news! I talked to the guy Thursday about his campaign’s success at bringing community together beyond this election, and contextualized how it’s potentially shifted youth engagement with politics by simply listening @teenvogue.com
Zohran Mamdani's Establishment-Fighting Campaign Built Community for Young People
“What Mamdani has done is not only inspire and mobilize young people, but he has exposed the establishment and some of their calcified views of participation and inclusion.”

This is terrible news and more evidence (as if we needed it) that the media is anti-meritocratic. Teen Vogue did amazing political work.
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

You should care about Jamaica and Sudan even if you don't know anyone there and the news isn't covering it. The anti-Blackness embedded in folks' lack of empathy is gross.

Everyone in South Louisiana should be speaking French or Creole right now, they brutally forced us to assimilate over the last 100 years.

Even Europeans think of multiple languages as smart BECAUSE SPEAKING MULTIPLE LANGUAGES IS A SIGN OF INTELLIGENCE
Vance says it is "totally reasonable and acceptable" for people to not want to live next door to people who speak a different language than they do

1. This is anti-Muslim 2. New York has long been an International city 3. There exists no person more out of touch than Cuomo 4. Saying “He doesn’t understand why people came here!” when you’re talking about someone with two parents who came to New York illustrates how Cuomo can’t think logically.
So here's Andrew Cuomo reacting to Maria Bartiromo wondering if Mamdani will "change the look of New York" and have Muslim women "completely covered up," telling her that Mamdani "doesn't understand New York culture" because he has "dual citizenship" and "he's a citizen of Uganda."
