I’m new here and glad to join you in this space. My name is Emily (they/them) & I’m a Louisiana Creole person who was raised in S. Louisiana. I’m queer and nonbinary.

I’m a poet! I received an MFA in poetry from UKY and I’m currently an English PhD candidate at USM in Hattiesburg, MS.
I had a dream I was chain-smoking last night (I’ve never been a smoker). I think I’m stressed out, lol

If you make the BOARD OF PEACE and you make yourself THE CHAIRMAN and nobody from democratic countries joins you and you declare you will “redevelop” a destroyed country with displaced people (because of ongoing genocide) and you say it’s a “great location” and you want to re-build it?

You’re evil.

We are playing the long game: whatever you have to do to stay in it for your neighbors, do it. That might mean you increase your tolerance for discomfort. Especially for us white folks who have benefited from systems that are harming others. Mental health isn’t an excuse to disengage / sit this out!

My first ever real knit 🧶 project in process—what will be a trial scarf! I’m already on the third ball of yarn. It is crazy to see something come from nothing!

The word of the day on Wordl the other day was Gumbo and baby, we (Creoles) are so up!

Therapist told me to get a hobby, LOL

Picked up knitting. Been doing it for three days. Can my ADHD brain sustain it? Only time will tell!

semi-regular reminder that ICE was only created in 2003

when you are asked to imagine a world without ICE, you're basically being asked to remember where you were when Lilo & Stitch came out

No one who doesn't want to be convinced will be moved by the forensic accounts undertaken by the media but it's still good that they offer the accounts. Not because people will be convinced but so that others can tell accurate stories.

For those keeping score, Bellingcat, The New York Times Visual Investigation Team, & Washington Post's Visual Forensic team have all published analysis showing the ICE shooter wasn't in the path of Renee Nicole Good’s vehicle when he shot her, contradicting statements by the President & his cronies

Say what you want about me, but at least I’m not a Zionist bootlicker.

Some of you are out here using a very weak defense of supposed antisemitism to justify wild Islamophobia and it’s obvious you don’t know what words mean and you’re just racist.

Once I spoke up about someone’s racist published poem that was anti-Southern with no nuance and I was told to make that critique via “professional avenues,” so anyway—I have an essay and a poem forthcoming about the complex reality of the South. Keep an eye out for those pieces!

Sometimes people tell me who I am. They tell me (usually unprompted): “this is what a Cajun is” or “this is what a Creole is” and usually also “these are the languages they spoke.” These people are ALWAYS wrong. Let Creoles speak for themselves. I know who I am, my blood tells the story. I remember.
